Getting hold of soya milk in Singapore

I will be spending 3 days in Singapore on route to Oz with my 18 mo who is allergic to cows milk. Anyone out there know how easy it is to find soya milk (either formula or cartons) there? We will be staying around the Orchard Road area.

Also are cows milk/cheese/yoghurt etc used much in Singapore cuisine? Not sure how easy it will be finding dairy free food for ds.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Redinthehead, you shouldn't have any problems, there are plenty of nice supermarkets in Singapore that cater for the expat crowd and have everything you would expect to get in the UK, particularly around Orchard Road. In the basement of the Paragon mall on Orchard Road is a good supermarket that springs to mind which even has Green and Blacks chocolate!

Food should be fine too, Singapore is a food mecca and has every international cuisine you could imagine, often under one roof in the fantastic food courts. If all else fails hotel room service can do simple stuff good for kids - or just stock up in the supermarket and keep things in the mini bar.

Singapore is great with kids, definately go to the Zoo, and take swimming stuff for dc with you as there are places to paddle and play in water.

Enjoy the trip

I forgot to mention the obvious, Asian countries all use soya alot more than anywhere else, so you should be able to easily get hold of cartons of soya milk. I was concentrating more on dairy free food, but you should be fine with Asian food too as it doesn't often have cows milk, more usually soya milk or coconut milk.

Also, in the Paragon mall on the top floor are lots of shops aimed at children, including one hidden round the back which sells organic food etc, we found it was a great place to stock up on snacks and other things that are organic and my ds knows from home.

Tanglin Mall at the top of Orchard has a well stocked supermarket in the basement, and an organic shop on the 3rd floor (I think it's the 3rd)

If your DS is happy eating chinese-style food eg. fried rice, steamed rice with stir fries, then you won't really have a problem with dairy in food.

Fruit is always a good stock up option, I find my DCs don't eat very well on holiday when faced with new food.
