Windswept norfolk beaches that are freezing and lash you with salt spume spray and the sea is tempestuous and raging the slipping over wet pebbles as you bundle up to get greasy fish and chips

I may or may not have been reading too much John Masefield today

Today I miss......my friends and family in the UK. It's my birthday and it's been so lovely celebrating in Saudi Arabia with my lovely hubbie and children :)

Happy birthday jodi

Sorry for your homesickness sphinxster the pangs for certain people are certainly never far away.

I was just overwhelmed this morning for windy afternoons near my grandparents old home - they've both been dead for years and it's even longer since I was in Aldeburgh but I felt such a big tug there today

I miss green grass that I can run through with bare feet and have to look out for snakes or worry that it will be the last run I ever have.]

Happy Birthday jomidmum.

sphinxster get someone to send you a massive pot of curry powder to mix with mayonaise. I assume you can get frozen chips in those barren supermarkets. Not as good but we use it when we have pangs.

Haianese chicken rice in my hawker center.
Kids spending hours in the pool after school.
The green tea smell at the posh shopping mall.
Clean streets and lush jungle.
Red bean filled buns and pineapple tarts.

Driving the 'bomb' up and down the beach and fetching dad more beer while he's fishing, as he yells out how to drive out of the sand without getting stuck.

Gardens where you can actually grow things. Pubs. European cities with waffles. Chocolate. Sunday roast and visiting family. Running in the park with the dogs. Rain.

Today I miss cold weather, or even actual seasons. It's been over 30C pretty much constantly for months now and I'm over it.

I nearly cried on Sunday when I spoke to my mum and she told me it was snowing :(

I also really miss a decent chip shop - haven't found one anywhere locally and I'd kill for a battered sausage with curry sauce!

Toasted tea cakes from home.

Din Tai Fung from our last expat posting.

And my parents.

Today is gearing up to be a bit of a miserable day - think cold, rainy, grey - so I'm not actually massively homesick Grin

Apart from my mum, a decent newspaper and Irish pubs, not much. I know how lucky I am not to get homesick though, I prefer it here. The beach after work never gets old for me.

My GS's are poorly and have had the day off nursery. Their DM - my DD1 - was on night shift last night, her DH has to work today so she's had to stay up til he finishes.
If I were home .... Sad

It was lovely actually. I stayed in the Swisshotel by Clarke Quay (we lived in River Valley area). It was wonderful being there without the school stress; took me a while to figure out why I felt so light. I had various brunches and dinners with friends at old faves including PS Cafe at Dempsey and Prive at Keppel Bay. I walked over 50 miles in the four days I was there, had two foot massages at Holland Village and a full body massage near Saiboo Bridge. I was cross with Singapore when we left before, but I definitely saw only the good this time and appreciated it for what it is. I also found all my friends with kids talked about the pressure they're under and the vast amounts of homework. Bit of a mass exodus at SAIS when Dulwich opened too. They've since had some restructuring of the SMT.

Thanks for asking! I will try to go back every year or two. We may all try to go next Easter for ten days...

My mum :( I've been on and off sick for weeks, nothing serious but I feel rotten and I'm just not getting better. DP has been very kind but I just want to go and lie on my mum's sofa for a week and have her bring me tea till I feel human again.

Going to try the curry powder and mayonnaise!

I miss rain and a chilly wind and a massive scarf and jumpers with long cosy sleeves. I miss going for a run in light rain. I miss proper tea.

I'm at the end of an Aussie summer and winter can't come soon enough!
