What would you take to Abu Dhabi from the UK

Hi there

We are hopefully moving to Abu Dhabi at the end of the year and I was wondering what should I take from here, i.e. bed linen, towels, crockery etc other than clothes for the children. We will not be taking any furniture.

Thank you so much Smile

It shouldn't be difficult to find most household things but I did find that generally the prices for reasonable quality bed linen, towels etc were much higher than the uk. No tk maxx equivalent to find bargains really but there would be plenty of choice available. Shoes too- you can find the same shop but the stuff costs way more for some reason. I would say just take things you especially like or feel attached to so your home feels a bit familiar and part of your identity.

I agree with warmastoast - no tk maxx type place, and even supermarket homeware is shite compared to UK stuff. I often bring new bedding back that I've picked up at 70% off in the debenhams sale.

everything is available though, Ikea will be your home for the first few weeks!

You're an extremely quick drive to Dubai from there anyway if you're not quite finding what you're looking for.

We shipped kids bedding, selection of cooking bits (cake tins and the like which have taken me time to find favourites), bits for DH's work, toys, books (wish I'd bought more new books for progression) to the ME (not UAE).
Bought sheets (wrong size s for beds in rented house), plates, glasses etc in IKEA. Found kids craft easy to replenish. Books are the only thing I'm really struggling to locate.

Happy moving.

I second buying sheets etc from Debenhams, BHS, during their sales in the UK. The sales are not quite the same and cost a lot more.
I've finally giving up trying to get sheets to fit the beds. Even bedding bought from the same store as the beds, don't fit. Drives me nuts!
Colgate toothpaste - not the same here.
Anusol/germoloids - not available here. The 'herbal' is NOT as good no matter what the pharmacists tells you. Even if you've never had piles before, bring some out with you.

IKEA is here for the rest of the things on your list.

Welcome to the Middle East 😀

I've bought sheets that don't fit the beds out here, but at least they are big enough. Trying to get a 19090 sheet onto a 20090 bed wasn't fun....
