Hi there,
I don't post often (or at all really, I like to read threads sometimes but, don't usually have a great deal of time!)
My husband is in RAF and has been posted to Akrotiri in Cyprus for 3 years. We are all off there as a family in Late Oct/early Nov.
I am just interested in seeing what other people think of the place (who have been there recently ish) and what there is to do with a nearly 3 year old.
We are excited as a family but, as an individual, I am a little scared of such a big move! :)
Any info or anything would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Sarah x

We have lived as retirees in Cyprus for 12 years. However we are ex-military having lived in various countries as children ourselves or with our own children.

How you enjoy living abroad and in Cyprus is up to you. Use it as an exciting opportunity, a new chapter in your life. You seem to be doing this already.

Choose a lifestyle to suit you and your family. If you are sociable then there are military/non military social activities in which to participate. They are advertised in the local English speaking papers (The Cyprus Mail/Sunday Mail-on line too). If you are more introverted then you can pursue your hobbies by enquiring and using the internet or Limassol for your materials/equipment.

Paphos is full of Brits and various clubs for hobbies but there are UK civilian clubs in Limassol too.

When we first arrived we spent our time visiting the "sights" of Cyprus and learning the old culture here. There are many restaurants too so you can try many cuisines.

The heat can be debilitating so you tailor your day around it. Do physical activities first in the cooler part of the day. Spend the hottest part of the day indoors, pursuing other activities.

Good luck!

Not been for years, but there is pretty much everything you could ever need. Dream posting, especially with little kids.
