Hi there,

I went in for surgery for endometriosis on Friday (I have pretty bad stage four). He found it was all over my bladder bowels etc and will need a further three hour op with a bowel surgeon. None of the work was carried out as he found a tumor (cauliflower looking) about 4cm by 4cm (it was thought by the sonographer this was an endometreomia) and so this was removed using the bag technique and he did a peritoneal wash.

Its been sent for urgent biopsy but he suggested it could be cancer could be boarderline.

I have a toddler and I am absolutely terrified.

Borderline ovarian tumours I think have an excellent prognosis because they are not usually invasive. Cancer Research UK says that they are usually cured by surgery alone.

I can understand how scared you are though.

Even if it is a non-borderline tumour, I would guess (?) it has been caught early given it was found incidentally during surgery rather than you turning up with symptoms and it being diagnosed because of that. In which case your endo may have done you an enormous favour.

Let us know how it turns out and stay strong. Cancer treatments have improved so much in recent years. Much of the prognosis data is now quite old...

Hi there,

Sadly I did have symptoms (for over a year now :( ) but I put them down to the endometriosis and the doctor nor consultant asked to see the scan images and took the sonographers view that it was an endometreoma (cyst linked to endometriosis) sadly that hasn't been the case. Thing is with ovarian cancer you can go from stage 1 to stage 4 in less than 12 months.
