hertfordshire - any lesbian mums?

My partner and I have a 4 month old daughter, and are thinking of moving out of London in the next couple of years, to Hertfordshire, probably to Hertford or Ware. Are there any other lesbian mums in this area? (I know there must be!) We would be interested to hear your experiences, positive and negative, of being a gay parent outside of London. We live in an area of London where there are lots of 'alternative families', so we are still a little nervous about whether it will be harder for our daughter to grow up somewhere where gay families are less visible. Advice please!!

Ooo, I grew up in Ware.

Can't help much but it seems like a fairly mixed area these days. No personal experience of this though. There are lots of MNers in Hertfordshire.

Don't know anything about Ware, but in a similar position to you - thinking of moving out of London to Cambridgeshire. There're lots of lesbian families on Gingerbeer - you might get a better response there. We did

We have a 5 month old btw. Where in London are you?

Hi mamachris

We've met quite a lot of lesbian mums in the area via Rainbow Parents, who meet monthly in East London - let me know if you want more details?

We are moving to St Albans in Hertfordshire. A lot of people move there from London for the same reasons as us/you so I'm hoping we won't be alone.

I'm in St Albans and it is lovely. Best place I've ever lived. I'm not gay but don't know any other mnetters here, surprisingly, but would love to meet some!

We're now in St Albans - everyone is very nice & polite but it's definately not the same as being gay & pregnant in London. For example, in John Lewis in Welwyn we booked a nursery advice session and they were very confused (but still very nice) about my partner being a woman! I have chickened out of mentioning my status to the GP so far. I'd be interested to know where you end up & how you find it. It's certainly exhausing coming out all over again.

Hi Marmite 444 and everyone else
we live in North London and would be keen to meet up in St Albans or anywhere else nearish by. Have you set up the baby/pre school group? We have 2 children, a girl and a boy. We would be more than happy to help with setting something up.

Hi Gay mums in or near St Albans

How does anybody fancy meeting up for a coffee to see if there's any interest in a gay/bi mummy group for toddlers/babies/bumps?

Can any one do, say, 1st May 2009 (a friday) at 10am in Borders in Colney Fields (nice coffee and easy parking)

How will we spot each other? My gaydar is poor.

Hi everyone,

I'm a health visitor in Rhyl North Wales- currently assisting the local women's centre on Water Street to promote the visibility of lesbians and lesbian parents.
If anyone has any suggestion or ideas about how we/I can help create a friendly welcoming environment for lesbians to meet I'd be very grateful.
I'm aware that there is homophobia still within the health service and am trying to counter this in my own small way - please let me know if there are things I can do to make it easier for women to talk to me about being lesbian or the difficulties they may be encoutering as a lesbian parent.

CJ75 or anyone else - did the gay parent/toddler group ever happen? My two boys are far too big for toddler group but I have zero gay network in St Albans and would love to know if there is a hub of any sort?!
