legal stuff when getting pregnant

Me and my wife are going to have our first baby this year. We're currently looking for a donor on one of those donor sites (with a mind to be careful) so we'd welcome any advice on that but right now we're trying to get our heads around legal stuff like parental responsibility. We're in a civil partnership so I know I will become the second parent on the birth certificate. That's fine, I can get my head around that. My worry is parental responsibility. As far as I'm aware, because we're in a civil partnership I have parental responsibility and the donor will have none.

Does anyone know for sure? I need to find a solicitor, but I live in Wales and our solicitors mostly deal in stuff relating to the countryside. I found one but in a town an hour away so getting an appointment has been difficult (we don't drive).

Any ideas? I didn't really know where else to go.

Rhi

Hi Rhi,
That is absolutely correct with a view to the legislation, although it will always be recommended to get a written, signed agreement with your donor. Technically it wouldn't be a legal document, but it could be used to show intent to give up parental responsibility on the part of the donor.
Good luck!

That's great, thank you. A signed agreement would be a great idea.

Much appreciated.

Gotta find a donor now!
