I don't understand my wage slip

I'm into month 10 of maternity leave. Just had my wage slip and I don't get it.
The last days of SSP, plus 4 days annual leave, plus kit day adds up to £670 before tax. But I've been paid £723 in total.
It's showing the £53 "tax paid" as a minus? And they've added it to my wage. Very confused. Please help as I don't want to end up owing money back.
Thanks

It means that you have overpaid tax so they've refunded you £53.

Anything that has a '-' in the deductions column is a credit, or a refund. When you work on a PAYE basis, each pay cycle they check the total pay to date to see that you've paid enough tax, etc. They will have seen that given your SSP, etc., you've paid too much tax, so they've refunded you the excess.

Okay great, thank you very much. That's a welcome refund then smile
