I have just found out that a mortgage protection plan does only covers for sickness not unemployment - I already have a separate plan in place for this and have a company sickpay scheme.

I want to look into claiming for misselling but I have heard many horror stories about hidden costs, high percentage of award taken for fees etc.

Any recommendations for firms not taking 30%?

All the firms I have dealt with (in a professional capacity) take a fee %+VAT.

The banks are legally bound to treat your claim in exactly the same way whether you use a third party firm or not. Contact the seller directly.

They were saying not to use one of those 3rd party forms. apparently it's really straightforward to make the claim yourself.

Rosa - thanks for link, I will give it a go myself and hope there isn't too much wrangling. I can't believe I didn't take more notice of the policy but at the time I got the mortgage the person said it free for 1 year then I could choose to cancel it. If it had been clear it was just for sickness/accident then I wouldn''t have even signed up for the free year as I was already covered.

If it's any reassurance, my friend used the MSE templates, sent them off and eventually got made an extremely generous offer. There was no wrangling at all. I think they have too many people to deal with and have opted to settle rather than argue.

I started a thread about this in chat. It is long and still running but lots of people are claiming. Don't use a firm to do it. It just takes a bit of your time and a stamp. One form which took me 10 mins to complete got me over 4K back.

Don't waist time going through some one to claim your ppi back, do it your self, just ring them and tell them you wish to make a claim for ppi, you should find they will have their own department just for that. I did mine my self, it cost me nothing and I got my ppi back along with interest.

Please dont go through a company. Do it yourself. Its so easy

Please don't let anyone else take a cut of what you are entitled to. PPI claims are easy to make - there are so many template documents and sites explaining exactly what you need to do. It's really easy. We managed to recover £1700 from Barclays on our own with a few phone calls and letters following a bit of googling

My sister went to her bank branch,where the original transaction was made, they dealt with her claim and it was a free service !She was very happy with the outcome .

Its so simple to do it yourself. MSE is the only website you need.
