Child Tax Credit

Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone could help me, i am VERY confused!

I'm due DS1 on the 9th Feb (eeeek!) and was looking into Child Tax Credits and went to the calculator on their website to see how much me and hubbie would be entitled to.
I remember checking it in Nov last year and putting in that we had just had a baby and it was something like £400 (i am presuming that is monthly? Is that how they pay you, or is it yearly?).
I've since checked it and it's gone from £100 last month to £90 this month?!?! Same info about earnings and hrs worked etc.

Why does the amount decrease? Is it to do with the closer you get to the end of the tax year ie April it gets less and less? Does this mean it will go down every month when we apply in Feb? And does it mean that come April i have to reapply and the rate will be different or will the amount given in Feb be the one set for the rest of the year?

Super confused!! confused

It goes April to April. So the £90 would be what you would be due between now and then, the end if the tax. When it said £400 that would have been the whole amount you would be due between November and April, you wouldn't get that a month!

You phone up to apply then every year they send you a renewal pack and you just let them know what you've earned and it's based on that. Hth smile

Oh blimey so say in April it said i was entitled to £700 that would be for the year?!?!?!

How does that help in the slightest?! Why is it ppl who both work get screwed more than those on benefits with no job its so unfair.

Yep that's a year and you will get child benefit which is £20 odd a week

It's nothing to do with people having jobs or not hmm People get the same amount of cct regardless I think. It's about £50 a child isn't it?

bumpybecky Wed 01-Feb-12 20:38:24

fuckity ctc is dependant on income so you don't get a flat rate per child, it's much more complicated than that (baffling in fact!)

fuckityfuckfuckfuck Wed 01-Feb-12 20:40:04

Maybe it's because I've always been a low earner then. The amount I recieved in CTC didn;t change when I lost my job. I lost the working tax credit of course, but child tax credit stayed the same. I maintan that noone's being 'screwed' though.

I work part time and dp full time. I am so glad for the money, if I were to give up work it wouldn't change the amount of money we get..... I think it works in bands?

Anyway OP, people who don't work generally struggle for money and can't afford luxuries they need ctc to live its definitely not the 'easy option'

Hmm you say that but that's not the case for some ppl i know. She's a single mum (one night stand) and she is entitled to milk tokens, fruit and veg tokens, a maternity grant, housing benefit, income support and a flat paid for by the council.

We as working people are only entitled to £90 a month. Fair, how? It is true, this country makes it easy for ppl to not work and claim and for those ppl in the middle we get screwed the worse. Oh well, welcome to modern day UK.

Thanks for the CTC advice.

ahhhhhpushit Wed 01-Feb-12 20:54:01

"How does that help in the slightest?!"

Noodles81 Wed 01-Feb-12 20:57:19

Yes, and i work, pay my tax and my national insurance so i am entitled to the money.

Yeah fucking entitlement culture go get on your soapbox to ppl who abuse the system and don't work for the single purpose of getting even MORE money.

oh behave yourself... really?

some people would look down on you (in the same way you are looking down on your madeup example) for needing to claim anything dude.

Madeup?! hahaah ok coz you clearly know me to make such a judgement.

ouryve Wed 01-Feb-12 21:00:24

Has anyone said it yet, noodle? If you think your "friend" is rolling in it, give up work, yourself, then.

maybe if you'd worked harder at school (particularly in English) you'd have a better paid job and not need the tax credits at all.

HTH

Noodles81 Wed 01-Feb-12 21:02:47

wow ok, so because it frustrates me that ppl abuse the system and working where i work talk to women who tell me they quit to get more money and tell me how to play the system and as one of you have put it here use taxpayers money i'm some kind of daily mail reading tory...go figure????!

What a bunch of judgementals you lot are. See you later
