I know a family who have immigrated to London. Their aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family are mostly here in the UK, some are back home.
At the moment, the big sister, and two brothers are here in London and have been living off benefits for at least a decade.
I have had to accept their status, however am feeling increasingly irritated by their talk of bringing the family over one by one. They are in a huge family of 11 children, so they aim to bring their remaining 8 siblings and 2 parents over to the UK. They would arrive for a holiday and then claim assylum. They would not speak English and would claim jobseekers allowance and housing benefits, while building up the funds to get a passport. While I sympathise with their difficult situation, with their parents having to work very hard to provide for their large family, I am really concerned that the UK government accepts families like this into the UK on a regular basis. The brothers and sisters got advice on the kind of 'story' to tell at customs to get sympathy and get into the UK.
The entire family, cousins, uncles and aunties changed whatever details were necessary especially age to be more likely to get maximum help here in the UK. At the moment they are sorting out who can 'invite' each of their family to the UK and will ask relatives who work to send an invite to these siblings abroad. Is this all perfectly legal and normal, and is this what our benefit system was set up for!?!?
