My friend has just called me. Her poor mum is in pieces because she has been contacted by her sons soon to be ex LL. Her son has done a midnight flit leaving huge rent arrears and she is apparently on all the paperwork as guarantaur.

She has never signed or agreed to anything and it appears he has forged her signature. The LL is now pursuing her for the arrears and threatening her with removal fees if his things aren't cleared from the property tomorrow.

I am going to help friend and her mum move all the remaining things out of the property tomorrow but she needs advice on what to do about the fraudulent guarantee in her name.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help advise on the steps she needs to take. It is much appreciated.

I think she should seek legal advice and make a declaration in front of a solicitor that she has not signed the document and it is not her signature. She will probably have to provide a specimen signature. It will help if she has things with her signature on, such as a driving licence and bank cards. She needs to obtain a copy of the document she has allegedly signed if she hasn't done so already.

Thank you. She has requested the paperwork. Hadn't thought of specimen signatures. Hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult to prove.
