My father's brother died leaving no will (in Ireland). He was single and childless. My father is dead. There is one brother still living. Does he stand to inherit all of my deseased Uncle's estate or do myself and my sister (his nieces) stand to inherit anything?

As far as I understand it your uncle would get 50% and you and your sister would get 25% each

Hang on, how many brothers were there in total?

Thank you Moose.
I was hoping that was the case. But as my uncle is his next of kin I was told (by family members) that he was to inherit everything.

3 brothers.
The recently deceased had no children. My father (deceased) has 2 daughters and the only living brother has 2 daughters.

Check whether intestacy laws are the same in England and Ireland

Ok. I should still be right. You should get legal advice about making a claim and whether it would be worth it. Is the estate of much value?

He's left a house which my uncle insists will come to him as he is the only surviving brother.

I'm on Ireland and its my understanding the surviving brother inherits everything. When my aunt died intestate her estate was divided between her brothers and sisters.

I'll see if I can find a link.
