Deedpoll question

Basically I'm wondering if there's any way to check if someone's name has been changed by Deedpoll? A child has come into my care and I was informed her surname had been legally changed, but I now have reason to believe that's not the case as child benefit have her birth bame, and so I'm very confused! She doesn't have a passport or bank account, and I cannot find any evidence of a legal name change, so when I go to apply for her passport should I just use her original name on the birth certificate as I have no evidence of a change? Or do I need to find out wether or not it was ever changed? Her mum has passed away so asking her wether or not she changed it is not an option

There's no longer a requirement to register change of name deeds centrally, so I suggest that you contact all of the agencies which would have required a certified copy of the deed.

This would be her school, GP, health visitor if appropriate, passport office, bank/building society if she had accounts.

What makes you think that her mum ever changed her name?

I'm not sure which school or Docters she was with when the name change occurred Confused her mum told me she'd changed her name, the child is my sister and we have the same mum, but I didn't live with them as I'm older so I wasn't there when the name was changed (name was changed to mums partners name, they were not legally married and he is no longer around to ask), her school do have her down with her new name, but I'm not sure how that came to do, il have to do some more research
