help with funeral costs

Hi all, a family member of dh has died. His dms brother, her and the other siblings need to apply for help for the funeral costs, on the form it states that if any siblings are not in receipt of x y & z benefits then help cannot be given.

What happens if one of the siblings is not in receipt of these benefits but also has no income- is a kept housewife in other words.

Does this mean that the help will not be given? As although she is not in receipt of benefits she also is in receipt of no income.

Can anybody please advise

Thank you

Sorry to hear of your family's loss Flowers

Did the deceased family member have any next of kin or are the closest relatives your DH's DM and her siblings? How old were they? This could make a difference to what help you may be able to access.

From what info you have posted, I don't think your DH's family have a claim I'm afraid. Regarding the family member who is a housewife; if her partner is either working or not receiving the qualifying benefits then she will not qualify (it counts as household income if in a couple).

Funerals can be emotive times but try not to feel you have to spend more money on extras than you can afford (which is hard for the older generation who like things done "properly" I realise). Limos can cost around £200 so maybe one would be enough or none at all and relatives drive? I suffered a bereavement last year and arranged the funeral; only close family members arranged flowers and we gave friends and other family the option of flowers or donating to charity in my relatives name. Don't feel you have to use the florist the funeral director suggests either.

Not sure if I read your op properly (it late for me!). Sorry...

Are the other siblings in receipt of benefits for the grant and it's the one sibling who isn't? In which case, you have to supply all the details of the NOK and what benefits they are claiming or give details of their household income and the claim will be assessed on that information so it may be that a partial payment is made taking into account everyones financial situation.

I believe that currently, the highest award stands at just below £1,500 but be aware that it is rare for the full amount to be awarded.
