Garage replaced my car door with an incorrect door. Where do I stand?

Someone hit my car and I went through my insurance. Their recommended repair centre did the work.

Three months later I take my car for an MOT and it fails as the indicator in the wing mirror isn't working.

I ended up having to take it to an autoelectrician as the garage couldn't sort it.

Auto electrician told me I had a 2008 door on my 2010 ford. Which was news to me. The model of the ford does run from 2008 to 2010 so the door fits but the wiring must be different.

He said its never worked as the wiring is totally incompatible. He's had to drill a new hole and do bridging wiring between the wire in the car and the wire in the door so they could connect. It was physically impossible beforehand for them to connect.

I rang the garage that did the repair and asked if they'd replaced the door which they'd admitted. I then told them this. They're saying it wouldn't have caused the problems the autoelectrician are saying as the model of the car runs from 2008 to 2010.

Its cost me £200. I think they should pay. They don't see, to agree but are discussing it. I have photos and a report from the electric bloke. Where do I stand.

You can tell from the date stamp on the door window that its 2008 and all the other stamps are 2010.

I would get the written report from the autoelectrician and then throw it all at the insurance company as the paid for the work to be done.

Agreed, go back through your insurance company, get everything in writing and deal with them rather than the garage that did the work

I also think the door has come off a different car rather than been new. There's a VIN number on a plate on the door which doesn't meet the VIN number of my car.

Also there is no way the damage needed a new door. There was no dent in the door, it was a bad scratch. It should have been painted.
