inappropriate material on Amazon when using "Charlie & Lola numbers" as a search term

I found a porn magazine for sale when looking for Charlie & Lola on Amazon .. I've reported to Amazon via their chat site but I'm totally gobsmacked. Is it because the security on my PC at work isn't all it should be?

The author Hmm /publisher is called Charlie and the "talent" is Lola so you can kind ofssee why it was picked up in your search.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 23/09/2014 10:56

And I guess you're an adult? So is it inappropriate, really? You're not going to buy it fir a childjjust because it came up when you searched for a child's book?

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 23/09/2014 10:59

Arf

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 23/09/2014 10:59

And Legal Matters? Really? Are you planning to sue?

InfinitySeven · 23/09/2014 11:00

It's a keyword search. Keyword searches ignore pointless words, so it'll only be looking for "Charlie" and "Lola". The magazine you have found matches both of those, and so is a relevant result.

You can avoid it happening by searching the right category - such as childrens books - rather than the whole site. But if you do search the whole site, Amazon doesn't know whether you want the children's books, or the magazine, or anything else that could have "Charlie" and "Lola" in it - so it'll return all results.

You could complain, but there isn't much Amazon can do, so they'll probably just apologise (and possibly explain the above).

I AM DISCUSTED

LiverpoolLou · 23/09/2014 11:06

Sorry but that's really funny Grin . Reminds me of when I was doing the quantity surveying module of my construction degree. I made the mistake of googling 'cheap hardcore' Shock Blush

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 23/09/2014 11:19

Pahahaha LiverpoolLou, that is genius!

OP, this is a vair serious matter and I would love to know how Amazon reply to your complaint.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 23/09/2014 11:24

For one minute I thought that it was the actual Charlie and Lola in a soft porn mag. That would have been bad.

But, seriously? It's a valid result from the search terms you used.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 23/09/2014 11:26

And it's sold out. What's up with ze world?

JabberJabberJay · 23/09/2014 11:33

It's a keyword search.

You need to get a grip.

AuntieStella · 23/09/2014 11:34

"And it's sold out. What's up with ze world?"

It's all the MNetters who have read this thread deciding to buy?

Amazon uses cookies to suggest items based on your previous searches/purchases. Does it use it to rank matches within one search too?

My ds made me google for "daddy bear" from goldilocks the other day. You don't even want to imagine what popped up on the screen then ShockGrin

Hoppinggreen · 23/09/2014 17:22

Whatever you do do NOT "Google " naked firemen" it's filth, filth I tell you!!!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 23/09/2014 21:46

I've been pondering if people Amazoning (why not?) fir the porny Charlie and Lola are muttering about inappropriate children's books coming up in their search?

On SpaffNet there's prob a thread...

AnguaResurgam · 23/09/2014 21:55

It was like a red rag to a bull. I tried 'daddy bear' and, from page 2 onwards, it was all gay porn, starting with "Brian Gets Taken"

DH and I share an Amazon account, and it displays 'things you might like based on your recent purchases and searches'. I wonder what on earth he'll think is going on now Grin

sillymillyb · 23/09/2014 22:04

Sorry angua I'm sure your DH will totally understand when you explain the nice lady off the internet was showing her toddler it and you were curious Grin

AnguaResurgam · 23/09/2014 22:10

Well, I've tried weirder....

LisaMed · 24/09/2014 11:59

I remember hearing someone googling about a pony on a works computer and then having to go and explain to the boss why Prostitutes of New York had come up on the server.

alwayswaving · 25/09/2014 09:45

thanks for all the messages. some v supportive and funny ;o)). some not so much but thats Mumsnet for you (Meh to you and all who sail you)! Amazon are taking it seriously - well they're making all the right noises anyway .. yes wrong category was searched and thats a lesson learned .. yes its funny unless you've got a 7 year old child standing next to you and they see it .. then not so much .. just a tad early to be exposed to the objectification of women as a norm .. just off to google "Naked Firemen" ;o)))
