Going NC with ex but have children together

Ok so after four months of constant harassment from ex I've decided the only way to stop him is to have no contact. I'm considering applying for a non molestation order due to ex texting me from 50-100 times a day and ringing my phone constantly. I just want him to leave me alone.
However, we have two children and ex works varying shifts each week so how would I propose contact hours without contacting him? Also, what is a reasonable amount of contact? He is sleeping on a mates couch so at the minute I've said two/three times a week ( depending on his shifts) for around 3-4 hours a time.

How about getting an e-mail account that you only use for communicating with him? You only look at it when you need to, only respond to important e-mails. It won't stop him completely, but will bother you less.
