So dp gets up this morning to go to work and finds a crime incident not posted through the front door. I ring up and find out a couple came back early hours this morning drunk, have a fight and he decided to take it out on my car, the police said there's been 2 arrests.
What I want to know is how much chance do I actually stand of getting any of the money back? Also am I fine to go ahead and book a repair or will I have to wait till the police have been? They want to come for a statement but seeing as I didn't even know anything had happened I'm not really sure what they want me to say.
Probably doesn't help it's my birthday, I'm 6 months pregnant with a 2.9 ds and now were stuck in all day grr

Contact insurers and get it fixed ASAP. Take some photos - I'm sure you have already!

Happy birthday!

Oh, and you may get a compensation order from the offenders, but insurance ought to cover you for now.

Information and links here content.met.police.uk/Article/Can-I-claim-for-compensation/1400007084461/1400007084461. It sounds possible that you will get your costs back. My car (and 15others on the street) was vandalised by a drunken idiot last year, police never caught him/them so I had to claim the £1500 repair cost on my insurance because I couldn't find the money up front.

just take loads of photos and then get onto the insurers. The insurers should be able to deal with any compensation via the police.
Get the car up and running as a priority. Window screens can sometimes be fixed very quickly depending on the make of vehicles.

Thanks everyone, police have been out and taken a statement he seemed to think ill be able to claim the money back, how long it will take is a different matter. I'm not going through insurance As my excess is £125 and the windscreen will cost about £160 but I will take lots of pictures

Harry, are you sure about your excess? Most policies are just £60 for glass damage with no effect on NCD. When my rear window was smashed through vandalism I phoned the insurance and they told me to phone autoglass. 2 hours later new window but £60 lighter which I got back through the courts.
Double check your policy before paying out.

Re the compensation order. 3 years ago I was awarded £120 after a theft from my car. 2 weeks after the conviction I had a cheque from the courts for £3.43. I've never seen a penny since.
