Broken window in rented house.

Friday evening I came downstairs to find the outside pane of glass in the front room window had been broken, I suspect by a football as kids had been out playing most the day and were nowhere to be seen after. rang the letting agent but had to leave a message rang again Saturday and they said they weren't sure who was responsible for paying and were waiting for the landlord to call back. no phone call Saturday so need to chase again Monday. A quick look over tennancy agreement shows we have to pay if we or guests damage anything, obviously we would do that but this is accidental damage by an unknown party so who will be liable ? of course nobody has admitted breaking the window and having just started maternity leave on smp we can't really afford to pay out. Bloody great timing.

It is likely to be the landlord's responsibility and they may have insurance that will pay for the damage.

Agree with leverette. You need to phone 101 and get a crime number.

windows are covered under buildings insurance (landlords responsibility to have that). My DD broke a window (accidentally) in our rented flat. I phoned my insurance company who told me it was not a contents insurance job. Explained what had happened to landlord who took care of it all.
