CRB and caution for assault

There is no point contacting the DBS. The employer does not automatically receive an update when the employee's record changes. The employer should, however, conduct a fresh check every few years at which point any convictions, cautions, etc. received since the last check will become apparent. If he has not disclosed the caution himself he could be in real trouble at that point. However, as AgentProvocateur says, it is quite possible he has disclosed the caution and the school has decided it is not relevant, particularly as it is a domestic violence incident not involving children.

Even if he discloses it, it wouldn't necessarily mean he'd lose his job. It would be up to to person in charge of CRB checks at the school/local authority. They would ask him for his version of events and make a decision. I doubt such a conviction would impact upon his job if he had an otherwise unblemished record.

Often if a job requires a CRB/DBS check, then you have to disclose any subsequent offence which would show up on a check. This may be part of his contract.

Contact the Disclosure Barring Service (it's not CRB any more) and shop him? He should of course have disclosed his caution himself.

Could anyone tell me what is the situation with regard to CRB checking for someone who has already got a job that needs a CRB check, and then subsequently receives a caution? The reason I am asking is that I know for a fact that someone who is teaching in a secondary school has received a caution for assault but is still carrying on teaching. Would this be normal as I'd imagined that this kind of record would stop someone from having contact with schoolchildren?

I know this for a fact because the person is my ex and the person he assaulted is me.
