my great gran has just passed away and we have to go through probate. i have looked into doing it ourselves and i just want to check i have got it right.
there are 4 beneficiary's on the will. me and my brother will get 2k each and my mum, and uncle will receive and equal share of any remaining funds. all the money is in a single account and from what i can tell it will be quite simple to file the forms our self. her property has been sold for residential care so there are no other assets. she did receive a £300 per year private pension as well as state pension.

as i understand we have to fill out a PA01 form and a IHT2005 - 2006 form. we then send this to the local probate office and they will send us an oath. we can take that to a solicitor to swear on the oath at a cost of £12 or book an appointment with the probate office to swear. once we have sworn on the oath it will take 10 days to receive the necessary paper work to release the cash.

this all seams a bit too simple so i am worried that i have missed something. our solicitor will do it all for £600 plus VAT but i would prefer it if i could avoid solicitors costs

if anyone with any knowledge could tell me if i have got it right i would be grateful

Have just been through this too - had a quote of £2000 for a solicitor to do the paperwork so decided to do it myself. It is quite simple. If you are naming all of the beneficiaries on the PA01 you will all have to swear the oath. In my case only one of us has filled out the form. I sent the forms on 28 Feb, they cashed the cheque on 8 March and we are waiting to hear from them. Good luck with your application.
