Thank you. I was hoping that was the answer.
My ex has never seen his now 7 year old son, so has no attachment, nor has he ever provided any support so also unlikely at this point.

It's not automatic but they can apply to the court for pr. I've found that courts normally award pr unless there's a BIG reason not too.

Once they have pr they can have their name added to the birth certificate.

Following on from the post regarding changing a birth certificate.

If a court ordered DNA test proves a father not previously on a birth certificate is the father - would this then constitute a declaration of parentage and go on the birth cert. via the court and would that then mean they get automatic parental responsibility rights? https://www.gov.uk/adding-fathers-name-birth-certificate
