Garage hasn't repaired car properly

I had a problem with my car when climbing a hill - loss of power, strange noises, engine light on. I took it to the garage and explained everything. Got a call the next day saying the problem was the fuel injector and it would cost £300 to sort out. I gave the go ahead. Just picked my car up today, paid for it, all fine until I got to the same fairly steep hill as before and started climbing...exactly the same thing happened! Not as bad as the last time, but still a temporary loss of power and strange thumping noises. No engine light this time though, and the problem seemed to go away after a few seconds.

Contacted garage, they say they will take the car back to reinvestigate the problem, but will have to charge me for any further hours they spend looking into it, and any further repair/replacement costs. They maintain the fuel injector needed to be replaced anyway, and that the car didn't produce this problem when they tested it.

I feel wide open to being taken advantage of now...I know nothing about cars, so can't argue with them one way or another. If they said they had fixed the problem before, but clearly haven't, are they legally bound to do any further work for free? Or are they in the right to ask me for more money to fix the problem they said they had originally fixed and which I paid for them to fix?

It's a reputable garage associated with a major car manufacturer, not some cowboy operation.

I too know nothing about cars but read about these in the paper at the weekend - might be of some use?

The other website to look on is //www.honestjohn.co.uk - they also have a q&a section that they seem to answer fairly rapidly plus honest john does a column in the Telegraph at the weekend - only car thing I ever read! he seems to give good advice and have built up lots of back info on things like this, would be worth dropping them a quick email and doing a search of their site...
