Click and buy have taken money from my account

Hi, really need some advice.

Click and buy have taken £142 from my bank account and I don't know how to get it back. They told me I had to fill forms in and send them back to them in an attached email. They wanted copies of bank statements and my passport. They are now telling me I have to do this again in colour (I don't have access to a colour scanner). I suspect if I did it again in colour they would find another problem to delay returning the money.

Is this even legal? It was their mistake that the money was taken and now I am having to jump through hoops to get it back.

Can anyone give me advice on how I should word an email/relevant parts of law that will apply to help me get it returned. I know it's not a huge amount of money but it is stressing me out right before Christmas and communicating with them is very stressful.

Have you contacted your bank?

What is 'click and buy?'

Was it by direct debit or as a payment for something? If it was a direct debit, you should be covered by your bank's direct debit guarantee and they can chase it up. Google it though, because it sounds like a scam to me.

www.clickandbuy.com/WW_en/payment/index.html

It's this company.

Thanks, it was a direct debit. I phoned my bank and the money will be returned to me within 2 days and the direct debit cancelled.

I'm a bit concerned that the company asked for my passport and bank statements now that you have mentioned this might be a scam. Shit, I'm usually really on the ball about such things but I trusted the company as they are linked to itunes.

Click and buy isn't a scam. I've used them many a time no problems.

No idea how the ended up taking money that wasn't in payment for something though?

Glad you can get it back anyway

They are regulated by the FSA so won't be a scam. Try not to worry.

ClickandBuy is a service that allows you to buy stuff online without having to enter your credit card details on every website, similar to PayPal. They are definitely not a scam.

OP - Do you have an account with ClickandBuy?

It sounds like ClickandBuy are attempting to verify that you are who you say you are. They clearly need to take precautions to guard against people trying to defraud them and people trying to defraud you. At this stage I would simply provide the information they want.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Yes I had a direct debit set up with them. I had been using them for a few years and it had all been fine until they took this large amount of money by mistake.

I don't wish to use them anymore as this has really put me off, especially the poor quality of their customer services. Luckily my bank has said I'll get the money back as Scootergrrrl suggested.

It's frustrating that they were happy to take my money without me verifying who I was but as soon as they made a mistake (which they admitted was their mistake) they then wouldn't return it without me verifying.
