Anyone know anything about solicitors in Mexico?

Just wondering if anyone may be able to offer any advice.

We have an elderly unwell relative in Mexico who pays a solicitor a monthly fee to administer their financial affairs. The expenses generally seem much higher than expected but when we have requested more information it has not been forthcoming.

Has anyone got any suggestions for the best way to proceed or got any advice? Have googled but can't find anything like professional or registration boards that might help us with further info.

It is very difficult to find things out at such a distance

Thanks mickle we have that and this solicitor is on this and the US embassy list although both sites stress that they are not any sort of recommendation.

Our problem is that we have been told our relative may need financial help but when we have asked him for information regarding this relatives expenses we have had no reply.

I was wondering if there were any professional bodies that we could threaten a complaint to IYSWIM to move things along.

I have contacts in my old firm's office in Miami who deal with Mexico. In fact one is Mexican abogado. He sent me a linkedin request yesterday so I could use that to put you in touch for a chat if you'd like. PM me. He speaks good English. FWIW from all professional dealings I have had there, it's not an easy jurisdiction. They seem to do flat fees, up front and take a lot of the proceeds etc. You might be best hiring a UK firm with links there to monitor what is going on if it is worth it.
