Applying for a mortgage whilst pregnant - advice sought

Hi,

A bank has just refused to take my income into account for a mortgage as I am pregnant. I am lucky to get a good maternity pay & have saved up enough to cover any shortfall but they were not interested in taking this into account.

I wondered if anyone was able to give any legal advice on this? Would this type of situation be covered by the new Equality Act 2010?

I'm afraid I don't have any help to offer, just some sympathy.

We bought our first house in September, the mortgage company still don't know I'm pregnant, and I don't intend to tell them! Well, they didn't ask!

It might be covered in the Equality Act - pregnancy is a protected status (or whatever they're called - DH will know) isn't it?

Do you have an IFA you can ask - ours was wonderful (and again, doesn't know about the pg, although it'll be him we ask first if we have any difficulties).

Baffling. Good luck with them!

Thanks for your reply, we have found another bank that will lend to us but not for such a good rate unfortunately.

Just stunned that they were able to do this.
