Broken blender but no receipt

I bought a Breville blender from Sainsbury's maybe 5 or 6 months ago and it recently broke. I can't find the receipt and Sainsbury's customer services say that because it's not a Sainsbury's brand without the receipt there's nothing they can do however the man behind me in the queue muttered something about not needing a receipt. If anyone can give me some advice I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

Legally you don't need the receipt. However, if Sainsbury's are awkward you will need some form of proof that you bought it there such as a credit card statement.

It may be worth contacting Sainsbury's via their website to see if they are more helpful. It is not unknown for customer services in stores to say things which are out of line with the company's policy.

I had the same problem with an iron I bought from there recently. Sainsurys are only liable for the 1st 12 months, but if you dont have a receipt like I didnt you have to contact the manufacturer.
I contacted them (Russell Hobbs and they were great, I did have to pay for postage to send it back but they then sent me a brand new replacement within a week. I suggest you get in touch with Breville.

What prh47 said. Can you dig out a credit card statement with the purchase on it?

Thanks for your replies. I've just called Breville who were very helpful and I just need to post it to them and they'll send a replacement.
Job done.
Thanks again.
