present for 10yr old elder sister

My niece will soon be 10, I don't know her well at all as they live abroad. She has 2 younger sisters who she shares a room with and 3 brothers.
So- the gist of this is
I'm thinking of giving her a wooden keep sake chest of drawers or box for putting special little bits n bobs in, would your 10 yr old DD sharing a room with sisters like such an item? should I be looking for one with a lock?
