Your children's future????

With my mortgage deal fast coming to an end and my mortgage likely to increase. I was just wondering what provisions have you made for your childrens' future? I don't just mean university or a home or a car but things like music lessons, hobbies,clothes.

I want more children(I have 3 ds's) but how will I ever afford them. We are unable to save? What is everyone else doing??????????

Frankly we're not bothering I was able to put myself through University, heck i had to get a Saturday job and buy my own clothes and tampons at 15 and I am a much more successful, resourceful person than my younger by 9 yrs old brothers who have had the moon and stars handed to them on a plate, one's just narrowly avoided prison and the other hasn't had a job for more than 6 months at the age of 23.
We'll tread water for now and just not get into debt, the mortgage will be paid off by working like a dog between the age of 45 and 65 and then we might get to retire too.
My feeling is that when I am dying, I want to look around at my lovely close family and for them to be sad i'm leaving them, not 2 kids thinking thank goodness she took out life assurance and paid off the house.

i dont think about the childrens' future too much as im too busy dealing with the present.i have just gone with the flow,for eg my dd1 expressed an interest in drama so i started her at a theatre group.

however,i think the most important thing to give them is a sense of self-worth so they can believe in themselves whatever path they may choose to take.

I do agree with you KatieDD children need to learn the skill of doing things for themselves. I don't want my children to be handed eveything. I too had to work pre, through out and post uni and if anything it taught me some vital survival skills.

Like my mum is always saying in giving your children the things you didn't have you sometimes forget to give them the things you did have.
