I know it will be hard at times, but is it everything you hoped for when you decided to have a larger than average family?

Oh dear...... Not looking good :) I'm pregnant with dc4 at the moment!

NAR4 · 11/08/2013 14:44

It is lovely. I have 5dc and honestly think the difference after 3 is negligable.

Oh, brace yourself for the amount of washing when they are older. All those pe kits and towels from swimming and baths, adds up really quickly. Not to mention the weekly bedding wash. I highly recommend buying a machine with an extra large drum.

Mine get on really well with each other and are a pleasure to watch growing up.

Mine fight like ferrets in a bag only some of the time.
You never get lonely?
You quickly learn not to be smug; each one presents unique challenges to prove that your parenting is not responsible for most of how they are.
Even numbers are more balanced than odds.

i have 4 aged 5 4 3 and 10 months, its great, the only thing i find hard is the bickering between ds 2 and dd1,but i would say most of the time they get on,play nicely etc,i love watching them play together and i love watching them mother their baby brother,he is so lucky to have big brothers and sisters.

I agree that 4 is no different to 3,although the last couple of months dc4 has started crawling and now walking so im starting to have to watch what doors are left open and hes getting into cuboards and stuff, time for some locks i think!

chickydoo · 20/08/2013 16:31

I have 4
18, 17, 15 and 9
I hope you have plenty of cash!
My 18 yr old wants braces as her teeth are wonky. Costs close to 3k
(I have said no)
3 are at private school in London, & they eat a mountain if food.

I quite like them though Grin

We have 4 - 15, 13, 11 and 8 years. It's a lot of work, but I think it's easier than 3. With three, one was often left out.
Mine all get on well, and different ones play together at different times.
It's hard work for me though - but I do enjoy them - and i think they enjoy each other.
Large families don't fit easily in the modern world - holidays are more difficult. It is expensive. So now not sure what to advise!

Lovely replies! I am looking forward to it I think..... We are used to camping/caravan/lodge type holidays anyway so hopefully won't be too much of a shock :)

MultipleMama · 03/09/2013 02:34

I have 4 and counting. They're 5 (today!), 2, 11 months (ID boys).

I love the sound of laughter and gibberish around the house. I'm never lonely. I love the group hugs and tickle attacks. I love watching them interacting with each other. I love being surrounded by their happiness.

The amount of washing, dishes, untidiness, diapers don't even compare to seeing their faces every morning.

GeekInThePink · 20/09/2013 20:06

This thread has only proved to me that I do rather want number 4!
Oh dear.

peggyundercrackers · 20/09/2013 20:24

4 was always the number I wanted for some reason - 1s an only child, 2 would be fine, 3 is an odd number and you cant have odd numbers so 4 always seemed good. Sadly now I don't think its going to happen due to age. I always imagined coming into the house after being at work and having 4 laughing/giggling/squabbling kids running to meet you at the door and a house being full of love and laughter. Those with big familys are lucky

ML1973 · 21/09/2013 15:26

Peggyundercrackers I feel exactly the same - I always imagined having 4 (although when pregnant with no.3 I thought I was done, I didn't really enjoy the pregnant). Now the youngest is 3 I really want another but I think I'm probably too old and dh doesn't think we should have another anyway :(. I think 4 is the perfect number! I'd like to just get on with life and focus on the 3 gorgeous children I have but it's so hard to switch my hormones off when they are screaming 'have another, it's your last chance'!!
Good luck to all those pg with no.4 :)

Umm...

GeekInThePink · 22/09/2013 10:15

Oh no you mentioned that Christmas was awesome.
That sealed the deal for me.
I love Christmas with our three.
I just have a niggle.
My lot are such caring siblings too.
I think MIL would disown us but hey!
ignores post regarding washing and cheques
