baby wearing help please!

(7 Posts)

I was given a stretchy mobywrap when my baby was born and I have been in love with it, wearing him loads and loving it. It's especially useful as he is DC4 and it's just SOOO useful having my hands free to do stuff for the other 3 !

BUT I have just recently been prompted to look at some of the youtube clips on older babies flipping out of their stretchy wraps. They don't make for comforting watching! Thre solution seems to be a woven (and therefore not stretchy) wrap but I'm not sure what's out there and if there are any reasons to go for one make over and above another.

DC4 has just turned 6 months and is, as I type, trying to lean backwards out of the wrap to see what I'm doing on the computer smile so I either need to change my wrap or stop wearing him which I really don't want to do.

I changed from a stretchy wrap to a Mei Tai and I love it and would really recommend them. There are lots of different types of carrier, have a look on Big Mama Slings.

I use a Calum Bleu woven wrap with big 21 week old ds and love it! Got from eBay.

I have a ergo carrier - it's 3.5 years old. I have had lots of wear out of it, it is very robust and apparently hold their value well. You can use it up until four, but I think practically about two, depending on the size of the baby. It has so far been used for two children. I have has a c-section so can't use it straight away. Use a baby bjorn until I am ready to use the ergo carrier. hate the baby bjorn but this is the last baby and I am buying no more baby related stuff!

flipping out the wrap?!? i've never heard of that but i stopped using my moby around 4months. i've got a connecta which is brilliant. it's like a mei tai with shorter padded straps and big easy buckles. i'm using it for back carries for longer walks so i can push the double buggy. i've also had him asleep on my back while i cooked dinner.
am very tempted with a woven wrap though, just sold my moby and it was tough letting it go.

It's worth having a look at www.slinguide.co.uk to see what is out there generally when it comes to slings. If you do decide to go for a woven there is a rather dizzying myriad of choices I'm afraid!! A good workhorse is probably a storch or a hoppediz which aren't too pricey. It is also well worth getting a pre-loved one for your first wrap as it makes for a softer wrap which you will find easier to work with. If you have a sling meet near you you would probably find it gave you a good opportunity to handle and try a few different wraps before committing

Thankd ladies, very useful !!
