Is it easier to have 2 close together if you have much older ones to help?

I only have 2 atm but want at least 1 more. I'd like 2 but I dont want to risk leaving it too late because of the increased risk of abnormalities. So the way things are going if I want 2 more I'd have to have them close together, which is something I'd say I'd never do! The thought of double buggies/2 in nappies terrifies me. But by the time this would happen my existing 2 are likely to be 10 and 5. The elder one already helps a lot with the younger one so I've started to think that 2 close together wouldn't be so bad as it would be if they were my first.

Does this make sense to anyone?

I have 4 that are 9,5,3 and 2.

The 13mo gap between dd's3&4 was the easiest yet, probably as it's no extra work to the routine really.

DD1 and DD2 are very good, they will run upstairs and fetch pyjamas and nappies etc if I'm busy and they get themselves washed and dressed before school in the morning, however I do make sure that i still treat them as the age they are, I started to expect far more from dd2 than she should be doing at her age
