Diolch cardibach for the idea!

I'm just getting started as a learner so that's my limit in Welsh so far!

This is where we can chat, use our Welsh as we are learning and give each other help/ advice/ encouragement, etc. smile

I have "gog blood" too, eatyourveg. My father was from Prestatyn.

eatyourveg Mon 11-Mar-13 10:39:41

I'm in Kent but my blood comes from the gogs in Meirionnydd so I'll use it

maishoffwcingras Mon 11-Mar-13 09:52:48

yes exactly 'alex', like mamma mia!

not sure what the word for stalker is in Welsh wink

alexpolismum Mon 11-Mar-13 09:41:09

mam bach must be something like mamma mia in Italian.

Diolch, mais! I got the mae isho has soon as you said it was "give me strength" and I realised it wasn't hoff.

No point worrying about where I live grin I'm not even in Wales!

(I'm not following you around this morning, honest! grin)

maishoffwcingras Mon 11-Mar-13 09:37:13

Ma(e) isho(eisiau) ffwcin (sure you can work that one out!) gras

literally translated it's sort of 'One needs f'ing grace' but it's our phrase for Give me strength. So you could say 'Ma' isho gras' which would cut out the swear word. Not sure where you live though, I think it's a North Walian phrase.

O mam bach mae'n bwrw eira'n ofnadwy yn fan hyn rwan
test Roughly - Jesus it's snowing loads here now

alexpolismum Mon 11-Mar-13 09:31:04

grin

that's great! [sgwennu'r frawddeg]

grin

maishoffwcingras Mon 11-Mar-13 09:27:41

blush er, it means 'give me strength' but best not to use it in front of your welsh teacher or your DCs for that matter! I name changed to this the other day when I was wound up by the thread on welsh being a dead language & learning it was a waste of time

eatyourveg Mon 11-Mar-13 08:25:51

Mais what does your name mean? Hoff is like so I'm guessing something like maisy likes cingras?

alexpolismum Mon 11-Mar-13 07:46:21

smile

Smiling are you a beginner learner? I got that impression from your thread. Sorry if I'm wrong! If so, have a look here lots of free material to help you get started!

SmilingMakesMyFaceAche Sun 10-Mar-13 22:16:20

alexpolismum Sat 09-Mar-13 21:35:20

Diolch, mais

Ti'n garedig iawn. Os wyt ti'n moyn, dere at yr edefyn 'ma i ddweud helo!

maishoffwcingras Sat 09-Mar-13 21:28:52

smiling (or any of you other learners) if you ever need any help from a native am happy to (try to) help. I only speak Gog Welsh so depending on where you are learning our vocab may be different. Good on you and thank you for respecting our language

alexpolismum Sat 09-Mar-13 21:02:50

Smiling

I've been through your education thread. Sorry to see such negativity sad. As a mum in a bilingual family, albeit not with Welsh, I just wanted to offer you some support. My children are being educated through the medium of a language that is not my native tongue. I also speak it, as I have lived here for years, but there are still cultural aspects that I find it hard to relate to. It's not always easy, but I do believe it is worth it.

I hope it goes well for you. smile

Hello!

Nice to see this thread come back to life. We've all been on another Welsh thread in Chat here it is if you want to join us!

I'm off to look for the thread in Primary ed now!

maishoffwcingras Fri 08-Mar-13 20:09:48

smiling I've just read it, makes me so angry (although it's nothing I haven't heard a million times before). Da iawn all of you for making the effort to learn

SmilingMakesMyFaceAche Fri 08-Mar-13 06:59:23

Take a look at my thread in primary ed on deciding whether to send DS to welsh medium school ( which I am going to by the way). Shocking responses! Really irked me.
Anyhow, I'm committed to learning and progressing so you'll see me around! grin

alexpolismum Thu 17-Jan-13 07:35:00
