hi there,
does anybody know any french nursery in london, pls??
heard about the one in south kensington )les chatons) ...wud u know if its any good??
L'ecole du parc in Balham or thereabouts is meant to be good.
A group of us also run a Franch playgroup on Saturdays in Crystal Palace, but I sense you are looking for something for the whole week.
S
I've seen a bilingual one in Ealing but don't know if it's any good. It's called Ark of Noah.
I'm very much interested in the a French playgroup on Saturdays in Crystal Palace.
Could you shed any more light on this please.
Thanks
S
Yes - though it's not on at the moment because of the long summer break.
It's for children of 0-3 (though we are flexible) and their parents. It is aimed at children who live in French-speaking households, i.e. one or both parents using French as a regular and major language to communicate with the child (the English-speaking parent is also welcome, but what we're NOT is just a cheaper version of Club Pierrot or Jolie Ronde - we don't teach French and we don't use English to the children.) Sessions are 10.30 to 12 each week, cost currently 3.50 per session, and basically follow the format of songs, activity, story, coffee and play break, home time.
We are planning to have a couple of less formal meets outdoors over the summer and I'd be happy to tell you more if you were interested.
How old is your child btw?
MIFLAW - We'd be interested in any meets over the summer, though we're North London. It would also have to be on weekend as DH is the french speaker in our household.
DD has just turned 3 and since she's been born we've been on the look out for french playgroups. Do you know of any in North London which run on weekend?
TIA
yaha - there's ile aux enfants in north London and there's also a bilingual nursery which is about to open www.lespetitesetoiles.co.uk/english.html
Depends on age of your child.
3 as an age would be fine with us but, of course, the travel will be more of a problem with you. Have you tried contacting the Institut Francais to see if they keep a file on this sort of thing?
How shall I contact you if/when we meet up?
Would you be able to CAT me if you meet up?
Probably, if I knew how to CAT!
If you email me: mumsnet1@hotmail.com
I'll email you back with my contact details and proper email address.

I am looking for a French or possibly bilingual nursery. Or even better thoughts on the said.
We are in sw7, three doors down from Les Chatons - is it any good? The basement set up looks a tad grim but I guess the parks are nearby.
Is there anywhere else we should look at?
Also as the non francophone parents would I be welcome to the playgroups? Dh would never make it and we want her to know that other children speak French and not just here papa!
Hi MIFLAW, am new to mumsnet and have just come across your message. We would also be very interested in your group, we are in clapham and our little one is 8 months. Her daddy is the french speaker in the house, we both really want her to speak french, but am concerned she hears so much english from me as I am the main carer.
Pslc
Have had a poor turn out recently so my current plan is to some marketing and start things up again after Xmas - but I suppose it may start earlier if enough people want it prior to that ...
The basic details; it's in Palace (on the Triangle if that helps); it's for kids 0-3 years old (though most tend to be between 9 and 30 months, and we welcome slightly older children too, but realise it might be quite boring for them); it's very much NOT language classes - no teaching takes place, it's a playgroup, parents (or carers, whatever) are responsible for their children THROUGHOUT, and the medium of the group is FRENCH. All the songs, the story, the activity, including the instructions, are conducted in French (though of course, if an English-speaking parent is accompanying a French-speaking child, we are more than happy to help out with whispered asides!)
We have no rules on nationality, but assume that at least one parent is speaking French to the child for a significant majority of the time they are together.
Cost is currently £3.50 per session, but that might go up or down a little bit.
Let me know if this sounds interesting - I could really do with a bit of backing to start rebuilding the group (people went their own way a bit too much over long summer holiday this year!)
Hi mums and dads,
We will soon be opening a nursery, where children can learn French or Spanish (other languages will be available on request) a fantastic opportunity for kids to be bilingual or trilingual if youre already speak a different language at home.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
(We only have few places left )
I live in Notting Hill. Can anyone recommend any French Nurseries near here? What is Les Chatons like?
I'm a mum of a little two month boy. I'd love to meet other french speaking mums in my area. Please let me know if you fancy meeting up.
PS if anyone's still around, Les Bambins in Crystal Palce has now restarted!
Nous, where are you based?
Hello,
I'm also looking for weekend activities for myself and my 19 months old son. I'm French speaking and really would like him to be exposed more often to French (his dad is English speaking and he goes to an English speaking nursery). I'm based in North London (Kentish Town). Does anyone know any French speaking group in the area? Alternatively would anyone want to start something?
Thanks!
Corinne
Hi Corinne
I live in Kentish Town too. My son is only 7 months old but my partner is French speaking and we are planning on bringing our son up bilingually. I speak pretty good French too so if you wanted to meet up sometime I'd definitely be interested.
I know of another French couple living in KT (friends of friends) I could also try to contact, and with the French school opening up this September I think there would be alot of interest as there seem to be a lot of French speakers moving to the area, so perhaps we could form our own group?
Maybe PM me if you are interested?
Hey, did anyone heard find that geniuses nursery? I know is not open yet

Yes, there is Les Petites Etoiles in Tufnell Park which is French/English bilingual and also the established Mars Montessori Bilingual Nursery in Angel

These 2 schools are south of the Thames, though not so near, they might be your nearest creches/maternelles.
