Hi all I'm looking for a bit of encouragement,me and my partner been ttc for over 2 years now after going for all the test I've been told I do not ovulate and have been started on clomid, the consultant has put me straight onto 2 50mg tablets a day on days 2-6. Would be grateful if people could share stories of success please x

Hi no personal experience, but worked for an Nct friend. Another had IUI which was successful 1st time.
Best of luck

Kellie91 Wed 26-Sep-12 18:20:09

Hi thank you, my consultant has mentioned IUI but thought this was the best way to go

summerintherosegarden Wed 26-Sep-12 20:59:38

Hi Kellie, not a story of success as such but am currently on day 19 of my first cycle of clomid, going for bloods this Friday to see if I ovulated.
We've been ttc for a little over a year and I don't ovulate either; I was only on 50mg a day this cycle though (will go up to 100mg if 50 doesn't work for me).

Are you taking progesterone to bring on a bleed or do you have to wait for one to come naturally to get started?

Jaffacakeeater Wed 26-Sep-12 21:01:00

Pregnant with twins after first cycle smile))
Good luck!

Nevercan Wed 26-Sep-12 21:36:52

I got pregnant on my third cycle of clomid and then fell pregnant naturally with my second daughter smile

RubyrooUK Wed 26-Sep-12 21:49:18

Same story as nevercan. Pregnant on third round of Clomid (first time I ovulated in years) and am now pregnant naturally with DC2. smile

Jaffacakeeater Thu 27-Sep-12 06:26:13

Oh yes, forgot that bit. Got pregnant with beautiful B/G twins on then fell naturally just before their second birthday with gorgeous DS2.

Jaffacakeeater Thu 27-Sep-12 06:27:07

Just wanted to say lots of luck with your treatment smile I'm in a very similar position - haven't ovulated in ages and am starting 3rd cycle of clomid (150mg) on Monday with help from progesterone. Hope you get your BFP really soon. X

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Sat 13-Oct-12 23:43:55

leon1234 Sun 14-Oct-12 11:04:57

kellie91, I have been in ur shoes. I have used clomid . u can use for up to 6 months. in the mean time u can take zinc and
co enzyme which is needed for all enzyme activity. I did all of this . it worked for me. all the best.

BustyStClaire Sun 14-Oct-12 11:07:59

Clomid worked for me first cycle, and was able to concieve third without it!

raspberrytipple Sun 14-Oct-12 11:22:49

Hi, hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread but I have my next appointment on Tuesday and clomid or IVF are likely to be suggested. We have unexplained fertility. My periods are slightly irregular (between 29-35 days) but I do ovulate so I'm just wondering if its worth trying clomid or going straight to IVF? I really don't know which way to go. We have been trying just over three years

leon1234 Sun 14-Oct-12 12:01:21

raspberrytipple ,remember one step at a time, clomid will be tried for 6 months before ivf

raspberry

If you have been ttc for three years without success it is possible that the fertility problem could equally lie with both of you.

Unexplained is actually no diagnosis at all; it means that they have basically failed to find out what is wrong. It is also sometimes given to couples when they have not been adequately investigated in terms of fertility investigations.

What tests have both of you have had done to date (some tests get missed off), any test result over 6 months old should be discounted.

I would ask them lots of questions, its a huge leap from clomid to IVF.

I would also consider seeking a second opinion, it is fair to say that some fertility units are far better than others.

Hi Attilla,

back story is that we came off pill in June 2009, paid no attention whatsoever really for the first year, I was just glad not to be on the pill! Then decided to make a much more concerted effort and that went on for 14 or so months I guess. We got married August 2011 and went straight to the drs after honeymoon in September. The GP first off sent DH for a semen analysis which came back ok. Then for me did an internal, some basic blood tests and STD tests. All that came back clear except a CA125 test which was raised so I had to wait 4 weeks for it to be repeated. All this took place between September to December and just before Christmas I was referred to a Gyne/fertility consultant. Had an appointment with him in February this year, had a dildo cam scan and he said everything looked ok but the raised CA125 thingy made him suspect Endo plus my slightly uneven AFs and lots of pain during AF also pointed the same way. I had another lot of tests with him, one included an ovulation test which showed that I ovulated that month (also he saw a nice big follicle on the scan and said everything was as he would expect mid cycle)

So, had a lap & dye in April, I had some endo removed, just small patches really but consultant said nothing too serious. One ovary was stuck to something so that was released. They flushed my tubes and they were both clear, DH had another semen test, that came back better than the original. Consultant came to see me after the op (when I was still woozy to be honest) and said that there were 'lots of positives i.e. he didn't find anything that wasn't fixable, I'm young and healthy etc etc) and to try naturally for 6 months. When I had my next appointment if nothing had happened he said he would likely recommend IVF and I was entitled to one free cycle on NHS although we could think also about clomid to increase ovulation but that ran a risk of multiple pregnancy.

I'm just worried that we will go on Tuesday, he will ask which we want and I will make the wrong decision? I don't know where we go from here and it's making me a bit stressy. IVF is a massive step and although we desperately want a baby, I'm not quite sure we are ready for that just yet? I really don't know.

What other tests do you think could be carried out?

raspberrytipple Sun 14-Oct-12 16:51:54

I just had a look at my last two letters. Things tested so far:
Prolactin - 411
TSH - 2.64
Testosterone - 0.9
Rubella
Chlamydia
Androstenedione (normal) 3.5
Ovulatory day 23 progesterone 46.9
and I have a normal uterus apparently.

I think I'm over thinking this today. Sorry for the thread hijack!

Kellie91 Mon 15-Oct-12 20:11:23

Thank you all for you replies, I have a appointment with my gp tomoz to be prescribed something to help bring on my period so I can start my first cycle...raspberry clomid might be worth tryin before thinking of ivf, but if you do ovulate they may suggest other routes just don't rush your decisions as much as it is frustrating its better to check out all options maybe ask for 2nd opinion all the best with your appointment, would love to know how you get on xx

raspberrytipple Mon 15-Oct-12 21:32:52

Thanks Kellie. Will check in again tomorrow and let you know how it went. I supposed I'm panicking thinking ahead because IVF is such a massive step but as you and Attila say there are other routes and we need to explore what those are first.

dolcegusto123 Mon 15-Oct-12 21:40:13

Hi

After ttc for 3 years I conceived on the first month of taking the clomid. I now have a 6 month old baby boy. I took 1 x 50mg each day for the 5 days.

Good luck x

raspberrytipple Tue 16-Oct-12 17:24:46

Just back from consultant appointment and they suggested Clomid 50mg for three months as my cycle is a bit all over the place, maybe extended to six if necessary. I'm going to be scanned with each cycle and I have to have my day 21/23 tests done as well to make sure ovulation does actually happened. I do ovulate and we are still in the 'unexplained' category. When I asked if there were any other tests they could do she just sorted of didn't answer and said 'lets try this for three months as see how we go'.

Kellie91 Tue 16-Oct-12 17:50:20

Hi thanks for checking in raspberry, good news that they are starting you on treatment. Fingers crossed this works for you, I have just got in from the doctors myself they have out me on progesterone tablets to help bring on my cycle so I can then start its another10 day wait tho x

raspberrytipple Tue 16-Oct-12 17:52:20

Well, it's good that they've given you something to get your cycle going. I can't start until next cycle now as I have to take the tablets from day 2 - 6 of my cycle and I'm now on day 4 sad I thought you could start them on Day 5 but apparently now. Hope your AF turns up soon so you can get going too!

Laura05112009 Thu 18-Oct-12 10:25:34

My doctor has given me 5 cycles on 50mg. I am not going back for any scans as some people are nor are they putting my dose up to 100mg or 150mg after the third cycle it kills me how some doctors don't understand. I am 37 so this is my last chance. I am on day 3 of my first cycle and have woke up with the worst headache ever however I am just happy that I have a side affect so hopefully it means its working x

Kellie91 Mon 22-Oct-12 14:57:16

Hi twinlettes, my cycles are also irregular I got givin 100mg to start with but am currently 26 days late this cycle :s so I went to see my gp who have put me on progesterone to get started so might be worth a try for you to visit your gp cos waiting to start gets frustrating which prolongs your cycle hope this helps x

Hi, I've just got back from having a HyCoSy scan and he thought my tubes looked unblocked so has given me a prescription to start clomid on my next cycle! They aren't sure if I ever ovulate naturally but I have PCOS. Apparently I'll have a day 8-10 scan on my follicles after starting clomid. Just wondered if anyone has any advice or stories as I am new to this! Is there anythingto be careful of or tests to insist on first? Apparently I'm starting on 50mg, thanks x

Kellie91 Tue 27-Nov-12 20:44:55

Hi, good luck with starting clomid.... I have just started second round all I can say really is be careful of side effects I found taking the tablets on a night time helped cancel out the side effects... Hopefully this helps a bit feel free to inbox me anytime x

Mummytobe92 Thu 11-Apr-13 11:15:09

Hi there,
im just writing this message as i want to give women out there the encouragement that you need,
im currently 20 & i am 26 weeks pregnant with a baby girl & its all thanks to CLOMID!!
me & my husband had been trying for 2 years & 3 months before i got put on the 50mg dose of clomid (taking them on days 2-6),
its everything ive ever wanted becoming a mum & i thought it would NEVER happen before i was put on clomid i had all the tests going (ovulation tests, scans on my ovaries, my tubes checked & my husband had his sperm checked 2wice) eventually they find out that nothing was wrong with me just that maybe i didn't ovualte on my own. i started on the 50mg of clomid in Aug 2012 after the 1st & 2nd cycle nothing!! (although i did have the blood test to see if i ovualted & i did!) i thought they wernt going to work then after takin the 3rd cycle my period was around 3 days late (normally very on time periods give/take a few days) then i went to the loo & saw a bit of blood i was heartbroken i thought it was my period, but then no blood for days so rang the doctor & explained my situation & he recommended i do a pregnancy test, i ended up doing 3!! but in the end yess im finally pregnant! i know some of you will think it will never happen because thats exactly what i thought, my advice is to keep at it, it will happen & try not to think about things too much smile i really do hope this helps you all thanks xx
