Laparoscopy, D+C help/advice

I had a laparoscopy, hysteroscope, dye studies and D+C 3 days ago.

Woke up to a lot of pain post op, also had issues with heart rate etc, so had to stay in overnight.

The pain has been fine since, until today, also not had any bleeding since. Today woke up with cramping, when I used the bathroom I had some bleeding. Now still feeling crampy and nauseous. This is the most pain I've had since post op.

I basically just want to know if this is normal? I'm hesitant to take the strong pain killers they've given me as they make me feel sick and spaced out.

Sorry, just to add, I'm not worried about the amount of bleeding, more concerned that I'm now bleeding and having pain after 3 days of nothing.

I don't have any experience if this or v informed advice but just wanted to say poor you - that sounds miserable.
At a guess it's nothing alarming - I remember I had my worst pain about 24 hours after egg collection as the anaesthetic wore off. But I don't know about D&C.

I have had several surgeries tho and I would say do take the opiates or the pain might get too hard to control. If they make you feel spacey it might help you sleep? Then tomorrow ask GP or similar if they can prescribe an alternative. Or take something else. Paracetamol/hot water bottle is great, works better for me than the hard stuff.

And if the bleeding continues/increases, I'd call 111 or the hospital - they should have given you a number for any post op problems.

Hope you feel better soon. FlowersBrew

PS but obviously the above is all just guesswork! If you're in any doubt at all I'd call the hospital or else 111. Good luck x

If the bleeding is bright red you should get checked as it could be an infection. It could just be that the after effects of the anaesthetic and pain killers have taken a while to wear off completely but if you're still feeling unwell today I would try and give the ward you were on a call if you have their number. Always better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

Talk to the hospital. It's probably fine - I bled very little after a D&C (following a miscarriage) but it did start up a few days later, probably because I overdid things. Try to take it easy, but touch base with the hospital too.

How bad are your cramps usually when you have your period? Could the surgery have brought it on a bit early?

There hasn't been a lot of bleeding since. I was just a bit worried as there had been no bleeding since the op!

Definitely having a lot more pain today, both from the wound sites and cramping type pain. It could be that the opioids have made their way out of my system! I did have a LOT of pain relief post op!

Thank you all for your messages and reassurances!

They may have injected local anaesthetic and given you high iv doses of anti inflammatory that are now wearing off, if they gave you strong painkillers it seems likely they were expecting you to have moderate to severe pain at home. Try taking paracetamol and ibuprofen spaced out so there's always one in your body, every 4 hours, painkillers are more effective when taken consistently and if you give the pain a chance to get worse it'll be harder to control, you could also try one dose of the stronger meds to get on top of it, then revert back to para and ibu.

If the pain continues to get worse then I think it would be sensible to seel medical advice, hope you feel better soon!
