Fluid in uterus

Hi there, I have recently had my first IVF cycle but had to freeze everything as my lining wasn't thick enough in time for ET. During my cycle I also had some fluid in my uterus. I've had this in previous normal cycles too. It always happens mid cycle and then disappears about 5 or so days later. I am having a hysteroscopy in September but the doctor thinks it will be clear as she can't see anything on my scans. I'm worried if it's hormonal then it can't be fixed and I'll never make it to ET! Has anyone else had anything similar? xxx

Yes I have both with my full IVF cycle and with my FET.

In both cases fluid was seen at my lining scans but by the time I got to transfer day, the fluid had gone!

I had ET both times and both resulted in pregnancies- although also subsequent losses. My GP, NHS consultant and private IVF consultant have all said they don't believe the fluid is indicative of anything sinister as it goes on its own. They believe my losses are probably down to chromonsonial abnormalities with the embryos.

If I have another loss I will have a hysteroscopy to check all is definitely ok, like you are doing.

I have PCOS so it is possible that the fluid could be hormone related... But that doesn't mean you won't make it to ET.

Good luck!

Thanks RoseBud. Sorry about your losses l. Hopefully third time lucky for you! I don't have PCOS - my issue was low ovarian reserve - although despite not responding well to stims I managed to get 10 eggs and have 5 blastocysts in the freezer! The fluid is always there mid cycle which was an issue with my IVF cycle as my lining wouldn't thicken and so I couldn't go to ET. Desperately hoping this time it works!! Got my hysteroscopy on Sept 27th then will start the FET a week or so after that. The waiting is awful! When are you starting your next cycle? xx

That's great you have plenty of Frosties to get cracking with once the hysteroscopy is out of the way!

I had fluid on my scans during my clomid cycles as well so it seems to be a regular occurrence for me too. It always worried me (still does although I've pushed it to the back of my mind) but the consultants never seemed remotely concerned.

I find it hard to accept that it is 'just' one of those things.

I'm awaiting AF after an ERPC. Then have to wait for another AF before FET. So I'm looking at Oct. I have 4 frosties left.

Time goes by at a snails pace sometimes- the waiting is one of the worst parts of infertility.

That's great you have lots in the freezer too. I got my grades through this week but don't really know what they mean! Will you be doing any testing did you say to check they are normal? Have they given you any reason as to why you have MC? So sorry about all you've been through, it must have been so frustrating and upsetting. The waiting is awful but I guess that's all we can do! That and be hopeful! xxx

No they haven't been tested so it's all guess work. But I've been tested for hidden infections, blood clotting disorders and basic immunes problems and it all came back as normal so we think it's probably the embryos.

Statistically I think they say that 50% of blasts are genetically normal so hopefully we have at least 1 that will work!

Did you get yours tested?

Fingers crossed! That was our first IVF so didn't get any tested. Thought we might as well try first. They didn't recommend at this stage and I'm still young according to them so perhaps at a later stage will be something to consider. I'm just so nervous about this fluid and having the coveted triple layer!!

Hey RoseBud, how are you doing? I was meant to have my hysteroscopy today but had to move it as no sign of AF. Rebooked for next week but still haven't come on! If I'm not on by tomorrow then I'll have to cancel and just rebook when I can. It's day 38 today! Usually I am really regular but first natural cycle after my IVF cycle and she's playing hard to get. So frustrating as I just want to get started!! xxx

Hi Lolly

Im OK thanks. I'm still waiting for AF too! CD32 for me today but I temp and my apps have both told me that I ov'ed on Friday. We have been DTD regularly so it looks like I'm in my 2ww! Only ever had one natural one of these 2wws before because I never ov! Maybe the MMC and ERPC has given my body the massive kick up the bum it needed?!
Anyhow I know now AF will be around 22nd Sept so ET for me will be around 13th Oct I think.

I feel your pain with long cycles though- mine usually go on over 100 days if I don't take meds to induce a bleed Angry I hope your comes soon- so so frustrating for you.
Are you tempted to give the hysteroscopy a miss and try for a FET straight away? Then we could be cycle buddies Grin x

Just read back on our earlier conversation. I had my AF after ERPC and I'm now waiting for my next AF. So I have at least had a bleed and feel like my body has had a good clear out (TMI!)

Have you tried invoking the law of sod? Wearing white knickers and taking a pregnancy test usually works for me! Wink

Lolly yes I had exactly this.

It was to be my last cycle . This next bit is really important for you:

My gynae who was the wonderful & famous George Nduke liaised with some IVF experts in America who advised a course of antibiotics .

I took the antibiotics went back for a scan and the fluid had gone! Hence my ET went ahead. And my resulting son is beautiful Smile

That's really interesting Lotus Can I ask what antibiotics you took, for how long and what they thought was wrong?
Congratulations on your son!

RoseBud we could still be cycle buddies! They said I can start FET on day 21 of same cycle I have my hysteroscopy so no harm having it. Tried hot bath, white knickers, pg test, vitamin c and raspberry tea. Had AF pains for over a week now!!

NoMudNoLotus hey!! Wow thanks so much for the advise, I too will repeat all the questions rosebud has! I've had this fluid in natural cycles and IVF cycles. So annoying! Please tell all that worked for you and I will share with my doc. They did mention antibiotics I think.

Rosebud & lolly
It was a broad spectrum antibiotic ( I think amoxicillin) ....

They absolutely did not know what caused the fluid - but IVF experts in America who Dr Nduke emailed , had some trials into treating the fluid with antibiotic - my IVF centre had never done this before and told me to be cautious about getting my hopes up , but I took them for 7 days and then the fluid had gone!

If your gynaes want to liaise with them at all my centre was CARE in Nottingham.

Sending you lovely ladies much hope. I still count my last IVF cycle a complete miracle - the odds were not in my favour at all so do not lose hope.

I urge you to give the antibiotics a go! Flowers

Thank you I will absolutely share this with my clinic! Am wondering whether to take them to stop the fluid coming? Did you also have lining thickening issues with the fluid? My lining wasn't really thickening when there was fluid in there!

So happy it worked for you - this is making feel so much more positive!!

Lolly. Did AF show? And if so when is you hysteroscopy booked for? I hope it's all sorted.
I'm getting a heaviness in my abdomen now and I'm 9dpo so I assume my AF will be here in the next few days.

Sooo ready to get cracking!

AF arrived in full force on Thursday! Hysteroscopy booked for Tuesday but worried I'll be spotting then as its Day 6! Not sure whether to tell them or not as they said I can't be bleeding when I have it. It's getting light now so could be OK but not sure what to do!!

How you doing?

I Should be starting FET meds on Day 21 which is 5th Oct. Xxx

Hey ladies, how are you doing? Had my hysteroscopy on Tues , all clear and no sign of anything sinister lurking there.
Got an appointment to discuss my FET on Monday and should be starting meds on CD21 which is 5th Oct. can't wait to get started finally - feels like I've been waiting forever! Also nervous about this fluid but going to mention antibiotics on Monday in my appointment.

How are you all holding up? xx

Lolly that's great news about your hysteroscopy being all clear! Time to get cracking!!
My AF started yesterday and got extremely heavy in the night so I'm counting yesterday as day 1 and starting my FET meds today- my ET is going to be on 12th or 13th October!
Yesterday I went on a mission booking flights, accommodation etc (I gave IVF abroad because we aren't eligible for NHS treatment) so everything is now in place. Excited and nervous all at once.

Aw how exciting!!! That's not too long to wait then! Are you on a specific protocol? My clinic have said I'll start on day 21....not sure what the exact process is yet and I'm sure it'll change with this fluid being in the way!!

You must be so excited, I'm excited for you!!!

It sounds like you are being down-regged (to quieten your ovaries) before your FET. Some clinics that that approach while others, like mine, don't. I always find it so intriguing how different peoples protocols are.
My protocol is just start oestrogen on day 2 (plus pred and aspirin for immunes), add progesterone 5 days before ET (around day 15/16) then add Clexane (for immunes) after ET.

So I think you'll be a week or so behind me Smile X

Lolly Your 1 embryo or 2 thread has well and truly put a spanner in the works for me!!!!
I was quite sure on transferring two but reading the responses to your thread, I'm really questioning the decision. What are you thinking now?

I'm 32 so still young in the grand scheme of things and my frozen embryos are all of good quality too! ConfusedConfusedConfused

Lolly2803 · 28/09/2016 17:52

Tell me about it RoseBud! I still haven't decided for sure but for some reason I still want to put 2 back. I don't know why I keep coming back to it, desperation perhaps? Not sure but it's so hard to decide for sure. Glad I've got a bit of time!
What are you thinking?

On another note I'm not down regging for my FET. Dr said she wants me to respond to the thickening tablets and is worried if I'm down regged I won't. I didn't down reg for IVF and took high dose stims to respond in the end.
Waiting for AF before I start.

Where are you up to? xxxx

DH and I have had a big talk about it this eve and I think we are going to go for one instead now.
We wrote a list of pros and cons, and the only pros we could come up with for transferring 2 was cost (saving money on one transfer rather than the potential of 2 transfers) and the slightly increasing pregnancy success rate. We had quite a long list of cons..... so although I feel strangely disappointed by the decision to revert to one, deep down I think I'm likely to have less regrets this way. Such a difficult and very personal choice though.
I'm CD6! Scan on CD13 and transfer booked for CD21 (13th Oct!) assuming all is ok at my scan.
So you definitely aren't far behind me by the sounds of it! When is AF due? X
