Spotting before period

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of having lengthy spotting in the run up to their period?

I always had 2-3 days of spotting, but since having two early miscarriages for the past couple of years I start to get a really aching cervix and a bubbly feeling only a few days after ovulation, which leads to spotting starting anywhere between 6 and 9 days after I ovulate. This spotting gets gradually heavier until my period kicks in at around day 14.

I've told every doctor and consultant I've seen along my journey but all have said it's not an issue and pretty much dismissed it as 'just hormonal'. I've never had more than a 1 minute conversation with any of them about it as theyre just not interested and say its not a concern.

So we went ahead with ivf treatment, I was hoping the progesterone would mean this wouldn't happen, but at 3 days post transfer yesterday I started spotting. I know in theory it could be implantation bleeding, but this feels exactly the same as I normally get with the achy cervix etc.

So I was wondering whether anyone else has had any issues with spotting and what action was taken, if any. Having gone into this trying to have a positive attitude towards it I'm now feeling like at only 3 days post transfer that it's already over and I'm completely gutted.

Would love to hear if anyone has any similar experience, I think if the spotting does turn into a period as normal then I think I'm going to have to shout louder about it and make someone listen and at least look at the latter part of my cycle to see what's happening.

Hi ChoChang
Before embarking on my iVF cycle, my few previous cycles all started with spotting every morning for 4/5 days and then period came on with a vengeance. One time only 4 days after ovulation. This was a new thing and was distressing when I was desperate to fall pregnant to negate the need for IVF.
Its not over yet for you, could even be spotting from the transfer or soreness from being roughed around with scans, and other procedures.
However I would say you should insist on further investigations if the cycle does not work.
Are you on cyclogest or something to help womb lining?
My test date is today, haven't plucked up the courage to do it yet, but have had no sign of period at all, but probably been lulled into a false sense of security
Hope the spotting calms down

Hi everhopeful. Thanks for your reply. I know it could be various other things, but this just feels so familiar that I cant help but feel it's just more of the same. Yes I'm on cyclogest and had hoped that might avoid the spotting. I guess I'm just frustrated that every time ive mentioned it (to 4 or 5 different doctors) it's just been dismissed, even though sometimes it's for more than a week before my period, and I feel like it's probably a real issue. If things don't work out you're right I'm going to have to insist on further investigation before going any further.

It's great news that your periods not showed any signs of appearing yet,and I understand fearing taking it completely, but I hope you manage to do it and get a good outcome x
