putting 1 or 2 back?

I'm a little ahead of myself, egg collection isn't til Monday but I suspect I won't get that many eggs from the scans so far (estimating around 6-7 eggs)

It's my first IVF. I thought I wanted to put one back (if we get that far) but honestly because I had hoped for more eggs.

Can anyone either point to the research about putting 1 versus 2 back or tell me your experience/opinion?

Are you planning day 3 or day 5 transfer?

The risk of multiples is significantly different between the two

With day 3 embryos the possibility is there, but not massive. Most clinics wouldn't push an eSET policy for day 3-ers.

With day 5 blastocysts it's a different story. The likelihood of getting pregnant doesn't, counterintuitively, go up by much if you transfer two blasts, but if you do get pregnant the likelihood of twins is 50%

At my clinic if you're under 37, it's your first cycle and you have good quality blasts, if you want to have 2 put back you have to sign a waiver saying that you're doing so against medical advice.

I put back one blast, but would have done 2 day 3-ers

I am now nearly 10 weeks pregnant with a singleton

When you're going through IVF the prospect of a BOGOF two for one special is very appealing!! But the reason we're doing it is because we want a healthy baby at the end of it

The morbidities associated with twins are pretty significant. It's not just whether you're prepared to care for two babies, but whether you're prepared for going on mat leave at 6 months, or to have a long stay in the NICU. Worth thinking about carefully

How old are you?
I had one blastocyst transferred and had a lovely boy. My clinic advised SET in a first cycle under 35.

Well. I had a fresh transfer with one top grade blast and had a failed attempt. Then had a frozen transfer with our 2 frozen blasts still good quality but not as good as our first and I got a BFP. currently around 5 weeks but have had some bleeding, and early scan shows 2 sacs have implanted, but one is quite a bit behind the other so it doesn't look good for twins but looking good for a singleton.

I don't regret transferring 2, if this doesn't work out for me I'd do 2 again. With my first I didn't get the option for 2 was told just one, which I would have done anyway as it was my first time and I didnt have anything to compare it too. Good luck I hope it works for you.

My clinic is fine with transferring two blasts if you've had multiple failed cycles previously. However for a first transfer if you're under 37 as per my prev post it's very strongly not recommended

It all depend on what you get too. I got 11 eggs, 10 mature, 9 fertilised and 3 made it to day 5. My clinic advised 1 for my first transfer which I was more than happy to do, with it being my first. Had 2 good enough to freeze. I'm 31 had great lining etc etc. And it didn't work so I though I'm def doing 2 this time.

Totally my own opinion here, I'm not saying it's fact. But If I had to go for another round and I got enough fertilised eggs I'd take them to day 5 and freeze them and then do transfer. The reason I'm saying this is I was totally wrecked after all the drugs and egg collection etc. And I think my lining was more receptive during my constructed frozen cycle! I've done some reading on this and I felt 100 times better going into transfer more relaxed and my body feeling better. As I said this is my own opinion.
