Infertility

Anyone else having IVF for second child after IVF for first?!?

Hello!

We had IVF ICSI in January 2014 which resulted in our little boy born in October 2014. We started trying again when he's was 9 months hoping that nature would be on our side this time but after 3 months we decided to speak to the FC again to see if it was even worth bothering to try naturally. It wasn't and so we are to start IVF again very soon.

Looking for others going through the same thing if possible to be my buddy's Smile

Yes! We're about to start treatment for the second time. Had ICSI in 2012, baby girl born Feb 2013. We also started trying again when DD was 9 months but no luck so far. I guess we've put off going to the clinic until now as we know this time we'll have to pay. Free on NHS last time, £4000 this time! But we both want to feel we gave having another child our best shot.

How far are you with planning treatment? We have an appointment with the consultant soon so hoping we'll be all go for treatment perhaps in February or March.

I warn you now that I'm crap at coming on Mumsnet regularly but I promise to try :-)

Me. Sort of! Very similar timeline to you. Had IVF in Jan 2014 and lovely little girl born in Oct 2014. We have 2 embryos in the freezer but I was hoping it'd happen naturally (we've been not protecting since she was born - which was obviously very infrequently to begin with!). Periods returned in July/August and I've just stopped BFing 3 weeks ago on advice of the consultant who we paid our first visit to in early Dec. Periods seem normal but was gutted when it arrived last week. Unexplained infertility for us.
Feel massively tearful and scared that it won't happen again and that we've used up our "luck", but am so desperate for another baby. Hubby not keen for full IVF again so I feel my two Frosties are my only chance.

We have a 10 month old baby boy and have just had an unsuccessful ivf cycle which produced only 1 decent embryo which didn't work. We have a frozen one from our first cycle so will use that next and if the doesn't work we will do the whole thing again. Gaaaaa I hate this whole ivf thing. It's all so consuming. However it's worth it for the outcome! Everyday I feel so lucky to have my son. Good luck ladies!

Hey ladies, lovely to 'meet' you all.

Firstly how much does it suck to need help again?!? I did wonder if having a baby would miraculously cure things but it appears it's more male issue than we originally thought (everything a blur first time round I think)

We had planning appointment Friday and hopefully drugs arrive this Friday and then it's all go from cycle day 2 towards end of January.
Short protocol for us again thank goodness, dreading the injections again. Last time my husband did all the jabs, hoping he'll do them again this time.

No Frosties for us, only had 5 eggs collected, 4 mature and 2 put back on day 3. At the time I was gutted about only 5 eggs and gutted they didn't get to blastocyst but it does only take one I guess. Wish I had some Frosties to use rather than start all over again, the cost is insane!!!

Sorry to hear your second IVF didn't work DRS, I am petrified but kind of expecting that it won't work again first time this time round, we were beyond lucky last time.

Good luck all!

Yep - totally hoped/prayed that infertility would have been miraculously "cured" by having a baby! Definitely still feel consumed by infertility and jealous that I can't "plan" the next baby as so many other normal people seem to (I know some people have secondary infertility which is gutting too).

It feels about 10% less painful (emotionally) this time round. I think I just don't have the time to think about it as much, which I'm grateful for. But sometimes the green-eyed monster really rears it's head. On the other hand, I occasionally become that idiot who forgets you never know what people are going through. I heard at Christmas about some friends who are looking into adoption as IVF hasn't worked for them and I realised with horror that I'd fallen into the trap of assuming they were living the high life of the child-free couple.

We've not told our families that we're going back for another go. I probably will tell my mum and a few others before the actual treatment as if it doesn't work I think it was be an extra strain to pretend nothing was wrong.

Ok, so we saw the consultation and nurse this week and all systems are go! Should be starting treatment in February. And my period started today so now we're talking 4ish weeks away. Feeling a bit apprehensive now.

Eeeeeek you won't be far behind me! Are you doing short protocol?

We haven't told our families either Hmm

Good luck. I'm feeling apprehensive and not even started any treatment yet. You're right that it's about 10% less emotional but purely because we're so busy running after a little one!

Yes, short protocol. Not sure how they decide which to put you on. My clinic mostly seems to do short protocol.

Consultant asked about whether we wanted 1 or 2 embryos transferred. Took me a bit by surprise as last time it wasn't an option (as I was under 37). So since then I've been googling about twins ☺ However, mustn't get carried away...

Hi - me too! DD born in Nov 13, trying ever since I suppose. Had three frosties from that round, one didn't defrost, and bfns for the others in august and October. So we've had another short protocol cycle and I had a blast put back yesterday... I've been much calmer until the last week or so, throughout my FETs really, but now I feel the crazy getting me. We were v lucky it worked first time last time, I suppose I thought a frosty would work, yet here we are again. No blasts to freeze this time

Good luck all!

Oooh good luck keep!

West
last time we were told 1 embryo would be put back if day 5 but ours only got to day 3 so they put two back. We will go with their advice again I guess but twins would be a nightmare as we only want two children Shock

How's everyone doing? Any more news from anyone? Bunnygirlie, I know you're not far behind me in planning to start treatment but I'm not sure about Fisherwoman, DRSL or keepitgoing.
I honestly can't get my head round the idea of starting treatment in the next 2 weeks. I need to get the money out of our savings account but keep thinking "Oh, there's loads of time!"

All good thanks, 11 eggs, 8 injected, 5 developed. Had 1 blastocyst put back today. Will hear back tomorrow to see if we have 1 or 2 to freeze. Confused

How are you doing?

Only 1 to freeze but that's better than none.

Has the stabbing commenced?

Hi ladies ,

I start my two week wait today with a frozen five day blast from my first cycle three years ago. We had dd weighting in at 10lbs from that first lot!

Hope your all well X

Stabbing - ha, ha! Yes, it has commenced, Bunny. Last time it lost it's novelty on day 2, this time it took till day 3 for me to have to steel myself to do the injection. Although, it was the pessaries I hated the most last time. Glad you have a frostie - one is definitely better than none. Fingers firmly crossed for you.

And crossed for you too, Clean Sheets! Hope you both get BFPs.

Re 10 pounder, I thought my 9lb DD was a whopper but I see I got away lightly :-) There's a bit of me that thinks some IVF babies might be bigger and/or healthier than naturally conceived babies because the egg (and in our case the sperm) have been specially selected. Completely cod science but it will be interesting to see what research finds in the future. Hopefully nothing negative - we had to sign a disclaimer at the clinic as ICSI still counts as a new not-completely-tested treatment!

Oh west we had ICSI - maybe they make giant babies 🙈

My dd was so big she fit 1-3 month old clothes straight away. She had the biggest head I ever did see!

Yikes and ouch! Mine was ICSI and a petite 7lb13 but felt bigger lol.

I was lucky as my DH did all my jabs for me, I just couldn't do them.

Getting fed up with tablets 3 times a day and 'fanny pills' as my hubby calls them 3 times a day!
