Has anybody had a baby as a result of social egg freezing?

I'm considering freezing my eggs in order to preserve my fertility as I am 34 and haven't yet found the right partner. I was wondering if there are any women that have frozen their eggs and successfully had a baby? I have spoken to a number of women who have frozen their eggs but I would be keen to speak to somebody about the thawing process and success rates further down the line.

How was the thawing and how many cycles did it take you to finally conceive?

Hi Smartegg,

I'm afraid I can't answer your precise questions, but wanted to share a few thoughts nonetheless as someone who has had eggs frozen.

I am about to attempt egg thawing/fertilisation. I've been advised that my chances are VERY low - I only have four eggs, which were slow-frozen rather than quick (which isn't ideal - go for the quick vitrification option if you can) and egg thawing technology isn't very advanced yet....

That said, it only takes one lucky one.... and I'm very glad to have this chance, however slim it may be.

It is worth bearing in mind that technology in this area is advancing quickly, and it could be that in two, five or ten years time, we start seeing the same success rates using frozen eggs as we do with frozen embryos. For that reason, I'd say it's worth freezing some eggs now, before the quality of your eggs starts to decline.

But the egg collection process is not a pleasant one - to prepare your ovaries, you have to inject yourself with hormones every day for a few weeks, which can give you horrible mood swings, and you have to have regular scans and blood tests during the lead-up, and then the actual egg retrieval can be a bit painful. It will be a tough month for you.

You have to weigh these considerations up and make a decision.

Good luck x
