Can I combine NHS treatment with private health cover?

Sorry in advance if any of this is a stupid question:(
I have been referred to my local hospital gynae department regarding my difficulty in getting pregnant. I saw a dr there last month who sent me to do the usual Day 21 test, my husband having his sperm analysed this week and I need to have a HSG xray. The HSG xray letter says that the department has only a few slots a week at the xray department and it could take several months for it to be done. Only then can I see the dr again to get results! Add to the fact that my cycles are long and it has to be done in the first ten days and I dont know how long that will take.

I have some basic private cover with my husband's work and found out that the HSG test is covered, but not fertility treatment obviously like IVF etc. Does anyone know if I can have the HSG done privately and possibly get to see the consultant earlier privately if she is a BUPA dr, but then have NHS treatment if I needed fertility treatment?

Sorry if this is not a pertinent question!

Hi, yes you should be able to have the hsg/HyCoSy privately then go back to the nhs. I did this because there was a 4 month wait for HyCoSy. I then had nhs follow up with consultant a week or two later.
In my case everything is fine so I have to wait for the two year mark for IVF, however I an lucky enough to live in an area where you can have one private IVF without losing your nhs entitlement. It varies county to county so best to double check. Xx

No problem - going privately was the best decision I ever made. Everything is so much quicker!
How long have you been ttc? Xx
