IVF - when did you test

Clinic have told us to test at 19DPO - WTAF?! We had a not quite blast transferred on day 5. I am not one for early testing with IVF as want to know that a negative is definitely a negative rather than still having a glimmer of hope that it just isn't showing yet... but think their date is a bit over-cautious and of course want to put myself out of my misery sooner rather than later.

Just wondering when everyone else tested? We are thinking of going for 15DPO / 15 days after ER - surely that will give an accurate result?

My clinic said 16dpo. I tested 14dpo and got a positive (but then i didnt want to delay as knew i would need to increase thyroxine.)
Cycle 1 i tested 15dpo and it was very very faint and we didnt know for sure for several more days.
My failed cycle i tested from like 10dpo all negative and started spotting from 12dpo.

Thanks Naty - did AF start at a normal-ish time on your failed cycle? I will definitely wait until 15DPO, just don't feel any later is necessary really and they couldn't really give me a reason for waiting so long.

I guess it did as i usually do have a LPD so spot from only a few dpo and never get to 14days.

My OTD was 19dpo too. I tested out my trigger and took a FRER at 5dp5dt Blush - it was positive, but rather than the happiness I was expecting, it just brought intense anxiety. To be honest though, I'd probably do the same if I ever have ivf again.

I was given a date by my clinic, don't know how many DPO it was but was definitely an extended time. Tbh I never felt the need to test early, and any way my OH wouldn't let me!

Hope it works out for you. My test was positive by the way :)

Thanks both and big congrats bigchangesabound! I told my DH last time to NOT let me test early... this time I have no compulsion to (as in before 14DPO) but don't want to string it out any longer than I have to as we don't have the best chance of success and would rather know than be holding out hope. You sound very disciplined btw!

Tootsiepops - My friend did the same! Was it an actual BFP or just your HCG? It is so hard - such an intense wait after all the treatment. I hope it was a good outcome. I am 5DP5DT today actually... but no tests in the house! Grin Am thinking of Friday - DH can work from home that day if necessary and if it is a BFN I am out for my birthday the next day so will drown my sorrows. Not that that is my main incentive for testing of course!!

I didn't test out my trigger but totally cracked 5dp5dt, which was BFN. I got the faintest of faint BFPs 7dp5dt, which proceeded to get darker over the next few days. My clinic didn't do blood tests, and their OTD would have been 16dpo. Ultimately my BFP ended up being an ectopic (and what a bloody saga that was) and I suspect my HCG levels were never really that high.

In the process of doing a medicated FET now, and I'll test early again. I personally think I find it easier to deal with the gradual fading of hope rather than the hope, then no hope scenario but I think it's probably horses for courses.

I tested each time at about 11 dpEC and a.ways got an accurate result then.

I got a faint pos on frer at 11dpo, clinic said test on 16dpo, 4 ivfs and always been a terrible early tester. Good luck

Hi Hawaii, I was determined not to test early (OTD 16 DPO) but caved in and tested 13 DPO after sleeping most of day 12, and suspecting... I got my positive and ended up testing nearly every day for a week because I couldn't believe it.

I tested early because I was pretty sure I was pregnant and also I was going to be alone the week of my OTD.

Good luck!

It was a real positive, thankfully. I'm just over 12 weeks, and only now starting to relax a bit.

I've had a previous ectopic (naturally conceived), and was just generally hyper aware of miscarriage stats etc. I also think I'd done such a good job of convincing myself it wouldn't work first time that it took me ages to believe that it had.

I'm working on being more optimistic :)

I was told to do one 11dpt (5 day embryo).. and waited till 11 days I don't know why really I think i just wanted to know for def one way or the other.. luckily was a bfp and got 8 week scan on 4th June:)

I was told 16 days past egg collection in my fresh cycle and then 11 days past an FET which was a 5day blasto (so the same!). So that would take you to until Friday I think... I tested at 10 days for my FET as that was a Sunday so thought it better than Monday morning before work. The problem is that you just hold out that glimmer of hope until your period turns up anyway! Which for me was two days later on the FET.

Good luck, the wait is the worst part I think!

I got a faint bfp (Internet cheapy) on 6dp5dt and a positive digi on 8dp5dt.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I was doing okay but have got itchy test finger today. Not helped by having bought a pack of FR tests yesterday... In previous 2 pregnancies i have felt dizzy by now and aren't, though have felt slightly sicky/food fussy the last day and a half, which I did with DS at about 5/6 weeks. However I convinced myself of this before and NOT been pregnant - the mind is an evil and powerful thing! Not feeling too hopeful but just need. to. know now.

Sounds like 11DPO is quite popular for an accurate reading. I will try and hold out longer as I want to be sure if it is a BFN. Agree though BadgerFace about that tiny ray of hope until the period anyway so I guess the closer test date is to that the better to get it all over with.

LittleTalks - I'm really sorry, I had an ectopic too which is awful anyway, but from IVF I think is extra cruel after seeing it where it should be at ET - it must have been such a head mess. It's one of the reasons I don't want to do the clinic test date as if it's a bfp I want to be booked in for the 6ws sharpish. Wishing you loads and loads of luck this time.

Tootsie - Brilliant - massive congratulations! The early stages after a loss must be horrendous. I also had a natural ectopic last year and feel that IF this is a BFP I'm going to be terrified until at least the 12 w scan, it must totally change how you see being pregnant - rather like a first big hurdle than getting near the finish line.

Having the tests in the house is always a problem!! I would ask your DH to hide them... Interestingly one of the posters on the new year IVF thread I'm on was told to test 16 days past a 3 day FET transfer so maybe 19 days is becoming the new norm for some clinics?

Wishing you so much luck with this hawaii. Remember that every pregnancy is different so no/different symptoms to prior ones is no indication of anything.

I know what you mean about the mind being a powerful thing and convincing yourself of things. We had a failed FET in Feb/March and then had to take April off IVF as the clinic couldn't do the follow up consultation until 1 May. We tried naturally and I was obviously convinced nothing had happened and so was drinking and eating soft cheese during the 2WW but I was really just waiting to be able to start my next FET. I have ended up with a natural miracle! I have my 6 week scan this afternoon and then a long way to go but there is hope out there for us all...

I waited until test day, but the test was just a formality really as I already knew what the result was going to be both times.

Can I just check the terminology, so by 11dpo do people mean 11 days past transfer? Or 11 days past egg collection?

Report
BadgerFace · 18/05/2015 18:50

Cheesy I think it's supposed to be 16 days post ovulation/egg collection so 11 days post a 5 day blasto transfer or 13 days past a 3 day embryo transfer. Although I could easily be wrong!

Cheesypop · 18/05/2015 19:17

Thanks - that's what I thought. I might hold out until about 5 days past transfer but I suspect that's probably about it! Confused

Hi I tested 5 days after transfer because I couldn't wait any longer , it was negative so did it again when clinic advised at 11 days after transfer and had a positive Il be 6 weeks on Thursday and first scan ??x

I tested every day from transfer! watched the trigger shot disappear to bfn and watched the bfp fade in from 8dp2dt. mc a week later though. think I will at least test until the trigger fades so I believe a bfp if I get one next time though!
