Infertility

What vitamins/supplements should I take to prepare for IVF?

Hello! I have been lurking a little while but this is my first post! I'm 34 and just starting to look into the options for IVF, with a view to begin later this year. I am in a same-sex relationship so I have no idea if I have any fertility issues other than the obvious one! Wink

I don't smoke, rarely drink, have a generally balanced diet and do regular exercise but I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can as early as possible - which supplements should I take? I already take iron supplements as prescribed by my GP for an iron deficiency - does that matter?

I feel completely overwhelmed with all the information out there!

It all depends on how far down the Ivf spiral of insanity you are.
I started taking a pre pregnancy multi vitamin.
After failed attempts I now take:

  • pregnancy multi vitamin
  • co enzyme q10
  • l arginine
  • pregnenolone
  • something else I can't remember the name of

The only thing I've been asked is whether I'm taking folic acid. I will be getting my IVF dates next week for my first cycle, and start down regging in about 3 weeks.

I'm taking a 'trying for a baby' pre-conception multi-vitamin pill, plus Metformin for PCOS. I don't have any other fertility issues (going it alone with donor sperm)

What I've got from my clinic is pretty much that they want you to be healthy, and to have a healthy BMI (mine was too high, so I had to spend a bit of time losing some weight) and that should be enough. Sounds like you've got it mostly covered with your lifestyle, and iron tablets; just add a conception multi-vit to that and you'll be good.

Thanks for your replies, I just bought a pre-pregnancy multi-vitamin so will start taking that and hope it works its magic!
