What tips do you have? I've always done my own injections and not had a problem.
DH is going to do these and he is bothered about it.

Have you done them? Are they that bad? Any tips?

Hi - yes we have to do them. My tips are tuck the vial in your bra for 10 mins before you inject. Warming it helps the liquid go in better. Then numb the area with an ice cube. Don't let DH hang around, mine does them in my bottom rather than thigh. Upper outer quartile, alternate sides! The anticipation is worse than the actual injection I find. Have some cotton wool on standby as the gestone leaks out and is oily.

Then once it's done rub/massage the area straight away which is meant to help disperse the drug. It can be a bit achy. I sometimes sit with a hot water bottle afterwards but it depends where you are in your cycle - hot water bottle not recommended after embryo transfer.

Good luck!

I've been doing these for the last 14 weeks! It's quite a sore one to do so I make sure that the anaesthetic cream has time to work before we do the injection. Don't go too far round the side of your hip towards the front or too near the middle of your back or you might hit a nerve and it hurts! Not sure if that's any help but if you have any specific questions let me know.

Mrs CP is anaesthetic cream prescribed or do you buy it over the counter?

I have been struggling on with ice cubes!

Just did the first one. Not as bad as I was expecting.
Not as bad as having blood taken.
I think it bothered DH more than me.

My clinic prescribed the cream for me, it's brilliant. It's called Ametop. DH puts a bit on and a thin dressing thing and we leave it for 30 mins. When he injects the gestone I can't feel it at all.

I'd go with all in Derbyshire's advice except instead of using ice (or cream) on my bum, I'd sit on a hot water bottle for a few minutes to warm the area and put it back after the injection. I was told to do this for the same reason as you keep the vials in your bra - it keeps the oily gestone a bit thinner and less painful.

Help- I've just got undressed to find that damn near all of the gestone has leaked out. Clinic aren't there until Monday.
