Having been referred to Guys late last year we have only had 1 appointment so far (March). We found out that my husband has azoospermia and he then underwent lots of blood tests and scans. After what seemed like an eternity we were referred on to sent on the assisted conception clinic this week (which they cancelled without telling us) and the urology clinic in October. We still don't have any answers and have no idea what's happening next. Anyone else had problems with Guys or can offer me any advice on the process? The wait is excruciating Sad

So sorry to hear what a hard time you've been having cry - sadly, from my own experience and what I've seen on this board, it's not very unusual. It's a bit of a cliché but it really can be a postcode lottery when it comes to fertility treatment on the NHS. I don't know Guys but I've had referral letters delayed and then disappear, and after months of waiting finally got an appointment at UCLH only to be told I was only eligible for private care, not NHS!

I know it's so hard to do, but I would suggest you try to take control and don't be put off by patronising receptionists, difficult consultants or busy GPs. Don't be afraid to chase up very regularly. Others around here have had more experience battling the NHS than I have, but I think the general consensus seems to be that you need to muster the strength to push back, or you risk falling through the cracks. If you don't know what the next steps are going to be then keep harassing people until they tell you.

Like I said, I really know this is tough, and you won't feel up to it every day. But on the days you feel strong I think you'll come away feeling empowered if you're able to retake some control over it all.

Best of luck!
