Infertility

When it fails, what next?

It's looking pretty definitively like this cycle hasn't worked, and before our test date. I started spotting last night (brown and initially clearing up quite quickly), but this afternoon I've started bleeding a bit more heavily and the blood's looking darker and increasingly redder.

I don't really know what happens now. This is our first and only cycle on the NHS, and although we will have help if we go private, it's such a big expense.

Can anyone tell me how long it took you from when one cycle failed to being able to start the next? Is it faster is you go private (as in a private clinic rather than paying to use the NHS -- and which is cheaper?)? Are there other options? Our infertility is unexplained. I've miscarried twice and have developed fibroid in the past few years, although they aren't big enough to remove (just big enough to be a giant pain). My husband has supersperm, so it's pretty likely the fault is with me.

Gah, this sucks. It sucks so much. We're both so disappointed.

So sorry. It's awful - eggs in one basket etc. They say wait 2 cycles before trying again BUT if you are paying private, it definitely speeds things up. Make sure you are ready, though. This stuff screws with your head.

I'm so sorry it hasn't worked for you :(

I only had one funded IVF and I'm now going private. Would going abroad be a possibility for you? It's so much cheaper and to be honest it does seem a little better

Thanks suzylee73 and resipsa.

The weird thing is, I'm now not actually certain that it has failed after all. The embryo seems to be fighting to hang in there. I was so certain Friday that it was all over, but I've been spotting on and off since then and it's not yet got 'menstrual red', rather it's been more sporadic and much lighter since the episode Friday evening; the cramping isn't at all like my normal menstrual cramping either -- and I haven't felt the way I did when I miscarried. All in all, the nurses at the ACU are still pretty encouraging. I'm still taking the pessaries just in case. Our test day is tomorrow, so I guess we'll know for certain then.

What a rollercoaster. If it does fail, though, we'll definitely going to have to go private, so I'll be asking you both heaps of questions about it!

Omg that's great news Grin I will be watching with baited (or bated) breath for your update!
