Do people think there should be a male age limit imposed for couples receiving IVF? Confused

Not sure I can see a reason for it tbh so no
Interesting question

I don't know, not if there is no medical reason.
I suppose 60 (but the main thing is that 1 parent is 40s or younger)
I would feel for a child with a 60 yr old dad. (Mainly from the perspective of thinking of a 10 yr old with my 70 yr old dad.)
Can't really imagine why you would want a baby at 60 (I'd like to retire by then). Also although people are living longer they are not necessarily free from health issues (my mum had a heart attack at 50s ) and a lot of people seem to be on bp meds.
It depends on the person and circumstances. Most important is that they love and care for the child
Although in some ways it's a bit sexist , but it is naturally

Hmmm, why not?

The age limit for women is far lower than the theoretical age at which a woman could still have a successful pregnancy.

So it seems as much about a value judgement that she is "too old" to be having children.

Join I think that is due to the success rates, I think you can continue privately just nhs have a limit.
I suppose they think 5% or so success is "not value for money" but also its a lot to go through say 95 couples for 5 pregnancies for example.
Or 10 rounds to have a 50/50 chance of it working.
That's just stats and obviously it does work you don't know till you try.
I think a problem comes when people get stuck in the system for years and then are suddenly too late.
I think depending on the reason for infertility (excl tube issues or sperm) a usual couple may have a higher chance naturally in the long term. Though could be wrong
As much as possible should be done to avoid the need for later ivf, quicker investigations and referrals and more info.

I have looked and the success rate is now quite a bit higher than I few years ago, where I remember figures from.
I guess that is why they may be increasing the age for women

I think you also have to look at the individuals. I'm 40 and my levels are perfectly average but another woman at my age could already be menopausal.

I think the menopausal side may be independent of age.
Ie if you are tested at any age and look menopausal nhs may postpone or not do ivf.
I think the age limit is more to do with egg quality ie less embryos making it to blastocycsts and needing to implant more embroys according to age as again they dont all keep on going.
But stats are only averages and so i agree unfair to individuals.
(I had 2 embryos at 32 out of 7 eggs so performing worse probably than av for my age)
