Quite shocked about this. Lost a relative to the same cause at an equally young age.

JakeBullet Sat 20-Jul-13 14:53:10

Do you have a problem Gobby?

GobbySadcase Sat 20-Jul-13 15:06:16

Eh?
I posted sad face - has the app produced weirdness again?

JakeBullet Sat 20-Jul-13 15:10:28

Weirdness I think. .it's done this before hasn't it?

GobbySadcase Sat 20-Jul-13 15:12:11

No idea, what's showing? Displaying correctly this end...

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman Sat 20-Jul-13 15:15:05

No! Bloody hell, that's a shocker. Rest in peace Mel.

GobblersKnob Sat 20-Jul-13 15:15:15

Oh that's sad, much too young sad

LineRunner Sat 20-Jul-13 15:16:45

That's sad. He was such an amazing comedian.

edam Sat 20-Jul-13 15:17:36

Very sad. Saw Griff giving a speech recently and thought of Mel.

Gobby, it's showing a sceptical face.

GobbySadcase Sat 20-Jul-13 15:20:20

Ooh. Have reported as tech issue, cheers.
I am really sad about this. Grew up with Alas Smith & Jones and was only recently watching NtNocN.

Mistyshore Sat 20-Jul-13 15:20:58

Very sad. We lost my dad at a similar age a few years ago from a heart attack. I remember watching Alas Smith and Jones as a teenager with my dad and it being one of his favourites. The news just made me shed a little a tear for Mel's family and my own sad

ouryve Sat 20-Jul-13 15:22:45

oh sad

TerribleTantrums Sat 20-Jul-13 15:23:01

I was just watching Not the 9 O'clock news last night, and talking to H about how that was my formative comedy, I loved it in my teens and still remember loads of the sketches now. sad How very sad that he has died.

BackforGood Sat 20-Jul-13 16:33:37

I so often quote sketches from 'Not the Nine O'clock News' as I meander through life.
Very sad news - great loss to entertainment. RiP Mel sad

alemci Sat 20-Jul-13 16:34:50

Oh no, love Mel Smith.

JakeBullet Sat 20-Jul-13 16:45:45

Apparently he has been ill for some time according to....er....someone. Think it was GRJ.

He said that for Mel it was probably a release.

SoupDragon Sat 20-Jul-13 16:52:45

Oh my goodness - how sad. I knew he had heart problems sad

TabithaStephens Sat 20-Jul-13 18:07:23

I remmeber Alias Smith and Jones. I loved him in that video he did with Kim Wilde as well. RIP.

I was shocked to see this today, Not The 9 O'Clock News is my favourite sketch show of all time, I used to video it and watch it over and over. I can quote it endlessly. A sad loss.

Rulesgirl Sat 20-Jul-13 19:11:14

Awww!!! Just saw it on Femail. So said. Those of us of a certain age used to love him.....when there were only 4 channels on tv.

Rulesgirl Sat 20-Jul-13 19:11:44

So sad.....not said.....

Pixel Sat 20-Jul-13 19:13:22

I was singing along to 'we like trucking' just a couple of nights ago. poor Mel.sad He always was the 'chubby' one though, remember the Stout Debate sketch where he was wearing the 'proud to be stout' t shirt? Although I did see him in Hairspray a few years ago and he certainly looked fit then with all the dancing about.
So many fond memories, and such a shame. RIP Mel.

The stout debate episode was on Gold a couple of nights ago. As funny as ever.

waikikamookau Sat 20-Jul-13 20:01:38

it is very sad and shocking.
so young as well.

wonderful plaudits being said about him on bbc news

happyreindeer Sat 20-Jul-13 20:04:05

Poor man. I was just thinking about him the other day as Gryff-Rhys Jones was on would I lie to you? and he looked brilliant.

DrDre Sat 20-Jul-13 21:07:58

Really funny guy. Such a shame he has gone.

I saw it on the BBC news website. Am astounded.
Like a lot of people, I grew up with NTNON.
Sad day.
RIP Mel.
